🏘️ The Power of Neighborly Love: Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs’ 1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings initiative, designed to address social isolation, concluded on September 28. Started in May, the 133-day campaign encouraged residents to host or attend gatherings to connect with neighbors and combat loneliness. With 880 registered events, the initiative helped over 55,000 people engage in their communities, creating 10,000 new connections.
Sponsored by local organizations and supported by city officials, the initiative was a key part of the Pikes Peak Rising mental health campaign. Recognizing its success, Neighbor.com named Colorado Springs the Most Neighborly City in America. The city’s effort has inspired similar campaigns in other cities.

🌳 What’s Next for Southeast Colorado Springs?
City leaders, including Mayor Yemi, gathered with residents to introduce the Southeast Strong Community Plan, which focuses on future development in six key neighborhoods. The 62-page plan covers topics like transportation, economic growth, public safety, and environmental sustainability. Feedback from the community emphasized the need for improvements in transportation, housing, and access to healthy food. The plan is open for public review and comment until November 3. This initiative is part of the city's broader goal to develop customized plans for every neighborhood within Colorado Springs. Full Story
🩺 Medicare Help for Coloradans: Know Your Options
As Medicare’s annual election period is here (Oct. 15 - Dec. 7), individuals 65 and older, along with certain disabled individuals, have the opportunity to select the best plan for their needs.
Medicare is divided into four parts: Part A (Hospital), Part B (Medical), Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part D (Prescription Drugs). While Original Medicare (Parts A and B) covers basic services, many people supplement it with drug plans or Medicare Advantage plans to fill in the gaps. UCHealth offers resources like SHIP counselors and comparison tools to guide beneficiaries in making informed decisions about their coverage. Free resources, including Medicare’s “What’s Covered” app, also provide quick insights into plan coverage and eligibility.
