🏛️ Mayor Yemi Tackles Citywide Issues
Mayor Yemi’s October briefing covered significant updates on roadwork, crime control, and homelessness in Colorado Springs. This year, 2C, the sales-tax-funded infrastructure program, paved 123 miles of roads, with more concrete work underway for sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. Voters will decide soon whether to extend the measure until 2035.
Mobolade also discussed police efforts to curb street racing and crime, noting that over 1,000 citations were issued recently.
Coming in November, the city’s new Homeless Response Plan will launch, focusing on cleanup, employment, and street outreach, while the 2025 budget aims to expand these efforts.
⚖️ Funeral Home Owners Plead Guilty
Jon and Carie Hallford, the owners of Return to Nature Funeral Home, have pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges after allegedly using nearly $900,000 in COVID-19 relief funds to finance a luxurious lifestyle while improperly storing nearly 200 bodies in a Penrose, Colorado facility. This guilty plea to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years, only marks a partial resolution, as the Hallfords still face extensive state charges, including abuse of a corpse. The Hallfords’ next court hearing approaches on November 8.
👂 Dementia Risk Tied to Hearing Loss
With holiday gatherings approaching, older adults are reminded of the importance of hearing health, especially as new data shows untreated hearing loss can significantly raise dementia risks. Research from the National Institutes of Health shows mild hearing loss can double, and moderate loss triple, the likelihood of cognitive decline.
Hearing loss demands increased mental effort, impacting memory and problem-solving abilities. Fortunately, intervention with hearing aids can help, with studies showing they reduce cognitive decline by nearly 50% over three years. Free consultations are available at HearUSA for those interested in protecting their hearing and long-term cognitive health. Full Story

This Copycat, while it doesn’t taste exactly like the ‘bucks version, it’s also not going to leave you feeling sluggish afterwards. Plus, nutritionally it’s a great choice so it works as a midmorning pick-me-up or late afternoon snack.
