🚧 Water Main Break May Affect Your Commute

water main break

Southbound traffic on N Nevada near the 3000 block is temporarily blocked due to a water main break. Colorado Springs Utilities crews are working tirelessly through the night to repair the issue, with plans to reopen the lane by noon today. Drivers are encouraged to approach the area with caution.

🛣️ I-25 Weaving Could Cost You!

I-25 Express Lane

Starting Wed, Jan 1, drivers traveling north on I-25, particularly through the South Gap between Monument and Castle Rock, take note: fines for weaving in and out of express lanes will soon be enforced. CDOT is cracking down on this unsafe practice, which disrupts traffic flow. During a trial period this month, over 23,000 warnings were issued, with a significant number likely affecting this stretch.

If you're caught weaving, you’ll face a $75 fine, which doubles to $150 if unpaid after 20 days. While similar fines will apply to other corridors like Central 70 and US 36—routes some may use en route to ski country—the South Gap is the primary concern for Colorado Springs travelers. Stay in your lane and avoid unnecessary penalties! Full Story

🚒 Firefighters Respond to Broadmoor Hotel Fire

Broadmoor Hotel Fire

In the early hours yesterday morning, a fire broke out in a closed outdoor pool cabana at the Broadmoor Hotel, prompting a swift response from the Colorado Springs Fire Department. The fire, which caused damage to the cabana and stacked lounge chairs, was extinguished before 3am. Thankfully, no one was injured.

The cabana is located near the infinity pool, which is closed for the season. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Thanks to the quick actions of local firefighters, the damage was contained without impacting the rest of the hotel.

🥾 Hidden History in Austin Bluffs Open Space

Austin Bluffs Open Space

It is going to be another mild weekend so here’s another place to explore outdoors. Austin Bluffs Open Space spans 584 acres and is a geological treasure with rock formations as old as the Rocky Mountains’ rise, about 66 million years ago. Pulpit Rock, a highlight of the area, is composed of sandstone and mudstone, bearing witness to the region’s dynamic geological past. This land, once ancestral territory of the Cheyenne, Ute, and Lipan Apache peoples, now includes University Park Open Space, Pulpit Rock Park, and Austin Bluffs Park.

With a mix of paved and gravel trails offering breathtaking mountain and city views, the open space is a testament to preservation efforts under Colorado Springs’ TOPS Program, inviting residents and visitors to explore its natural and historical wonders.

Location: 6411 N Nevada Ave, Hours: 5am to 9pm
