❄️ Morning Alert: Slippery Roads And Delays
Prepare for a wintry morning in Colorado Springs! Snowfall started last night and continuing through mid day today, bringing possibly 2–6 inches of accumulation, leaving roads slick and this morning’s commute tricky. Overnight lows dipped into single digits, and daytime highs will stay in the 20s, so expect icy conditions to linger.
City crews were ready with plows and patrols which started around midnight to keep roads clear.

🥶 Is Your Winter Kit Ready? Stay Warm, Stay Safe
Winter in Colorado brings beauty but also risks. Preparing ahead is key to staying safe and comfortable during storms. Make sure your home is ready with insulation, working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and enough supplies to last several days. Don’t forget your pets!
For your car, pack an emergency kit with blankets, snacks, and tools in case you’re stranded. When winter storms hit, minimize outdoor time, dress in layers, and watch for signs of frostbite or hypothermia.
If you need help, shelters, warming centers, and crisis resources are available—don’t hesitate to reach out. Stay safe, stay warm, and keep an eye on loved ones and neighbors during the coldest days. Print out the American Red Cross Winter Storm Preparedness pdf.
🛡️ Veterans in Need: Colorado Springs Cares
The recent tragedy in Las Vegas, involving a Fort Carson Green Beret who blew himself up on New Year’s Day, has highlighted the critical importance of mental health support for service members and veterans.
Despite available resources, many still face challenges in seeking or receiving the help they need. Programs like Mt. Carmel Veteran Service Center, the VA, and local organizations in Colorado Springs aim to bridge the gap with free screenings, therapy options, and peer-support activities like fishing trips to provide calm and community. Veterans can find healing through counseling and peer connections and some even become advocates for others to seek help and access these resources.
In a city deeply connected to the military, it’s vital to ensure those who’ve served know they are not alone. If you know of any that are struggling, please share this information. Full Story

🛣 TRIVIA: How One Street Reflects 70 Years of Colorado Springs History
Did you know that Constitution Avenue in Colorado Springs has a rich history intertwined with the city's growth and development? This significant east-west thoroughfare, extending from the central part of the city eastward, has been a vital connector for residential and commercial areas since the mid-20th century.
Constitution Ave’s development primarily occurred during the 1950s and 1960s, coinciding with Colorado Springs' expansion and suburbanization. Many homes along the avenue, built during this period, reflect the architectural styles of that era. The avenue's name likely stems from the American tradition of naming streets after foundational national documents, evoking a sense of patriotism.
In recent years, Constitution Ave has been at the center of city planning discussions. A long-standing proposal to extend the avenue to connect with Interstate 25 has been a contentious issue for decades. However, on March 14, 2023, the Colorado Springs City Council voted 8-1 to remove this extension from the ConnectCOS Master Transportation Plan.

Instead, they approved a plan to create a greenway for recreational activities such as biking, walking, and hiking. As of today, this greenway project is still in the planning stages and has not yet been completed.
