🚧 Plan Ahead: Major Westside Detour
The Mesa to Manitou project enters its next phase which started yesterday. A full closure of southbound 31st from Fontanero to Bijou (a popular route for those driving between Hwy24 to I25) until early April. This effort replaces five miles of aging natural gas pipeline, ensuring long-term safety and reliability for the area. Drivers are directed to use 30th as a detour during this period, with local access allowed only for residents.
The project continues to advance toward its final phase, connecting Mesa Road to Manitou Springs. While the temporary closures may cause inconvenience, these upgrades are essential for a dependable natural gas system in Colorado Springs.

🎭 TRIVIA: The Local 1982 Venue That Still Amazes!
Imagine a time before 1982, when Colorado Springs residents had to journey to Denver to experience the thrill of Broadway or a major concert. The opening of the Pikes Peak Center changed everything.
What engineering marvel inside the Pikes Peak Center ensures audiences enjoy “near-perfect” acoustics, no matter where they sit?
When the Pikes Peak Center opened in 1982, it wasn’t just a cultural landmark—it was an acoustic masterpiece that put Colorado Springs on the map. Every design detail served a purpose: water pipes suspended on springs to cancel vibrations, epoxy-coated walls to reflect sound waves seamlessly, and a basement built on separate support pillars to isolate noise. Adding to its innovation, the oblong auditorium is surrounded by 15 acoustic towers, ensuring sound reaches every corner of the room.
The center was also a pioneer in technology, featuring one of the region’s first computerized lighting systems, which stored cues on floppy disks 😲—cutting-edge at the time!
Since its opening, locals have enjoyed world-class performances without leaving town, from Broadway shows to the annual Nutcracker by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. *Source
ANSWER: A sound booth in the middle of the main seating area allows technicians to experience and adjust the exact acoustics the audience hears.
