🌽 Backyard Market Says Goodbye Downtown

The Backyard Market has announced it will no longer operate at Park Union (108 W. Cimarron), leaving many downtown fans saddened. Over the past two seasons, the market has created a close-knit community of vendors and shoppers. While this location closes, the market’s year-round Backyard Farm Shop and its seasonal summer market from May to Oct will continue in Black Forest (Both shop and farmers market located at 6845 Shoup Rd.)
If you’re looking for a downtown option, the Colorado Farm and Art Market will run Wednesdays from June through Oct.

🐻 Beezler’s 32nd: A Milestone Worth Celebrating
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo celebrated Beezler, their beloved Asiatic black bear, on her 32nd birthday yesterday. Treated to a special feast of strawberries, whipped cream, popcorn, and a bear chow cake, Beezler is the oldest Asiatic black bear in human care in the US and has exceeded life expectancy by three years.
Though she faces arthritis, her keepers help her stay active with exercises and strategically placed enrichment to encourage movement. Known for her oversized ears, shaggy mane, and gentle nature, Beezler continues to win hearts as she embraces her golden years.

🌟 Rare Ice Crystal Phenomena Lights Up COS

Courtesy of Lars Lebar and KOAA: Lights from Manitou Springs interact with the ice crystals above Pikes Peak
Colorado Springs was treated to rare sky shows thanks to freezing temperatures and high humidity yesterday. Sun dogs, rainbow-like halos forming around the sun, were visible during the day as sunlight refracted through tiny ice crystals in the atmosphere.
While these might not return with warmer daytime temperatures, the crisp night air still offers a chance to see light pillars. These tall beams of light appear when ice crystals reflect city lights, street lamps, or even moonlight. Combined with snow on the ground, they create a mesmerizing glow over the cityscape. Don’t miss your chance to see this rare winter magic. Full Story

🏛️ TRIVIA: The Secret Stock Market Hidden in Plain Sight!
In 1902, at the height of the Colorado gold rush, Colorado Springs boasted its own bustling Wall Street – the Mining Exchange Building. More than just a striking structure, it stood as the epicenter of the region's booming mining industry, a place where fortunes were made and lost in the blink of an eye. Built by Winfield Scott Stratton, a prospector who struck it rich and then turned philanthropist, the building itself embodied the era's prosperity and ambition.
Constructed with advanced steel and brick techniques, the Exchange was one of the city's first fireproof structures, a testament to the immense value placed on protecting the high-stakes transactions within. Here, in the grand halls of the Exchange, mining companies traded shares, fueling the dreams of prospectors and investors alike. Imagine the frenetic energy of traders rushing through the halls, the whispers of deals made and broken, the constant hum of a city intoxicated by the promise of gold.

Current View of The Mining Exchange
Today, the echoes of that era still resonate within the beautifully restored walls of the Mining Exchange, now a luxury hotel. Though the bustle of the trading floor has faded, listen closely, and you might still hear the whispers of fortunes won and lost, a reminder of the mining boom that shaped Colorado Springs. The building's transformation mirrors the evolution of Colorado's economy, from its mining roots to its diverse present-day industries, a testament to the enduring legacy of the state's golden past.
