🚒 Welcome Home, CSFD Firefighters!
After two weeks assisting with the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles, Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) crews are heading home to a warm welcome from family, friends, and the community. Their deployment highlights the strength and dedication of our local firefighters, who answered the call to aid California during a critical time. As they return, we’re reminded of the sacrifices they make to keep people safe, both here and beyond our state borders. 🙏

💔 Mourning a Loss That Shook Colorado Springs Community
At a high school track meet at UCCS’s Mountain Lion Fieldhouse yesterday, a devastating accident occurred during a weight-throwing event. A weight unexpectedly cleared the safety barriers and fatally struck a father who was attending to support his son. Witnesses recount the father’s courageous act of trying to protect his family. The incident has left athletes, parents, and coaches in shock, prompting outreach and counseling for those impacted. While the UCCS indoor track is temporarily closed, the community is rallying to support one another through this deeply emotional time. Full Story

🌾 City Growth Debate: Who Wins, Who Loses?

The proposed Karman Line annexation would add over 1,900 acres to Colorado Springs, bringing thousands of homes and businesses to the prairie near Schriever Space Force Base. While city leaders see this as a solution for population growth, ranchers and water conservancy advocates worry about the strain on resources. Water is a key issue, with fears of increased diversion from farms in the Arkansas River Valley.
Public safety concerns also loom, as the area’s distance from city resources could lead to dangerously long emergency response times. Ahead of the Jan 29 council vote, these concerns weigh heavily on the minds of affected residents. Full Story

🧘♀️ Just for Today, Embrace What Is
Sometimes, life throws challenges that leave us feeling lost or overwhelmed. Surrendering to the present moment—truly accepting what is—can bring a surprising sense of peace. It doesn’t mean giving up but rather releasing the struggle against things we can’t control.
A lesson I personally learned this week came when one of our beloved cats, only 12 years old, appeared to be on death’s door. After four days of tears and worry, the vet revealed her condition was treatable—challenging, but manageable. Letting go of my worst fears and accepting what is brought unexpected relief. So I share this video I found in hopes it is a tool you can pull out when needed.
Whether it’s navigating personal struggles or simply forgiving ourselves for not having all the answers, surrendering can open the door to healing and clarity. This week, take a moment to pause and affirm: “Just for today, I accept what is.”
