🤧 Health Alert: Whooping Cough Cases Rise

A whooping cough outbreak has been traced to Jenkins Middle School seventh-graders, who have been attending classes at Doherty High School due to structural issues at their own campus. This bacterial infection spreads through coughing and can take up to three weeks to show symptoms. It often starts with mild cold-like signs before progressing to severe coughing fits.
Health officials urge parents to monitor their children closely and seek medical care if symptoms appear. Schools and public health officials are working together to contain the outbreak and keep students safe. Full Story

Thankfully, the student wasn’t seriously hurt, but it’s a scary situation many can relate to. With winter’s lower sun angles making glare even worse, it’s a good reminder to slow down, stay extra aware, and be mindful of pedestrians—especially in school zones. Full Story

We found this interesting—Southern Colorado is in for a pothole-filled spring! A snowy January and extreme temperature swings have created the perfect conditions for road damage.
When water seeps into pavement cracks and freezes overnight, it expands and weakens the road, eventually causing potholes as cars drive over the gaps. With more freeze-thaw cycles ahead, road crews will be working hard to keep up with repairs. So, if your morning commute feels a little rougher than usual, now you know why! Full Story
