💰 How El Paso County Is Saving Millions on Roads

El Paso County has approved its 2025 Asphalt Paving and Preservation Program, a plan designed to extend the lifespan of local roads while minimizing long-term costs. Instead of waiting for damage to worsen, the program focuses on early interventions like preservation treatments to prevent major repairs.
Advanced technologies such as 3D profiling, LiDAR, and ground-penetrating radar will help assess road conditions and ensure maintenance efforts are applied effectively. This approach not only improves driving conditions but also saves taxpayers money by avoiding expensive reconstruction projects down the line.
🐠 Why This New Local Attraction Was Put on Hold

Jungle Reef, a new interactive aquarium planned for Chapel Hills Mall, has hit a temporary roadblock due to a stop work order from the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department. The project had permits for demolition but moved into construction without securing additional approvals, triggering the halt. A separate issue from the Colorado Springs Fire Department requires the fire sprinkler system to be operational before further work can continue.
While this may seem like a setback, it’s a routine part of the construction process, and the owners hope to open this summer. With recent changes at the mall, including new businesses and residential developments, Jungle Reef is poised to become another exciting addition to the evolving space. Full Story
🔥 PSA! CSFD Issues Warning About Home Fire Risk

Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is reminding residents to check your electrical outlets, as loose connections can overheat and pose a fire risk. If your plugs don’t stay in place or the outlet feels unusually warm, it’s time for a replacement.
CSFD recently encountered an outlet in dangerous condition, emphasizing the importance of addressing these issues early. Homeowners should call a licensed electrician if they notice any problems—and in the case of smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

🗝 TRIVIA: Unlock the Secrets of William Seymour's Legacy

Did you know Colorado Springs’ Black Forest area was once home to trailblazing Black pioneers? William and Elizabeth Seymour, former enslaved people turned homesteaders, settled near Black Forest in the 1890s. With their 11 children, they transformed 160 acres into a thriving dairy farm, supplying milk to local creameries and helping feed a growing Colorado Springs.
Q: What groundbreaking civic achievement made William Seymour a local history-maker?
The Seymours’ legacy extended far beyond agriculture. After retiring in town, William became deeply involved in community leadership. He helped found St. John's Baptist Church. Their story reflects resilience and entrepreneurial spirit in the face of slavery and post-Civil War challenges.
Today, his bronze statue stands outside the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, honoring his enduring impact on the community.
Statue location: Northwest corner of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum grounds, facing Tejon Street.
A: In 1903, William became the first African American to serve on a jury in El Paso County, breaking racial barriers in the judicial system. *Source
