😲 Club Q Shooter’s Mother Sues CSPD!

mother of the Club Q shooter

In an unexpected legal turn, the mother of the Club Q shooter has filed a lawsuit against CSPD, claiming officers violated her rights during their response to the tragedy. She alleges they entered her home without a warrant, refused to leave, and locked her outside barefoot in freezing temperatures while searching the residence.

The lawsuit, naming five officers, accuses them of excessive force and false arrest, as the charges against her were later dismissed. With the City declining to comment, the case raises questions about police conduct and constitutional rights. Full Story

🥞 Saved! Springs Tradition Lives On

Western Street Breakfast

A staple of Colorado Springs' summer traditions, the Western Street Breakfast faced uncertainty after losing city funding, but thanks to the Colorado Springs Airport, it’s moving forward as planned! The airport, already a partner of the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, stepped in with a $15,000 sponsorship to ensure this beloved event remains the official kickoff to rodeo season. With its deep ties to the rodeo and local military, the airport saw this as a perfect opportunity to give back to the community—one pancake breakfast at a time! Full Story

🏫 TRIVIA: The Surprising Story Behind Colorado Springs' Aging Center

UCCS Aging Center

Did you know that Colorado Springs is home to a unique mental health clinic that has been serving older adults for over two decades?

**What unexpected challenge did the UCCS Aging Center face shortly after opening its doors in 1999?

The UCCS Aging Center opened on Jan 25, 1999, at 1510 North Hancock, next to the Senior Center in the Golf Acres Shopping Center. Its dual purpose was to serve as a training clinic for the developing doctoral program in geropsychology and as a community mental health clinic for underserved older adults.

In its early years, the center faced various challenges but continued to grow:

  1. The center established four core programs: Memory and Cognitive Disabilities Clinic, Psychological Disorders Clinic, Family Consultation Services, and the Life Transitions Resource Center.

  2. By 2002, it had provided 2,049 hours of services to 195 older adults across all programs.

  3. The center's impact was described as "changing individual lives from a focus on loss, deterioration, or dependency toward coping, mastery, and purposive living".

Today, the UCCS Aging Center continues to evolve. In 2014, it moved to the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences on the UCCS campus, becoming part of an integrated health care initiative. This move allowed the center to expand its services and collaborate with other health providers. Now, it serves approximately 3,000 clients with about 9,000 service hours annually across all its programs.

Answer: Less than four months after opening, the center learned that Medicare rules had changed to disallow payment for services provided by trainees, forcing them to return $29K and search for a new funding model. *Source
