LMI, a defense and technology company, has expanded to Colorado Springs, drawn by the city’s strong military and defense industry presence. With plans to hire over 100 skilled workers, the company is focusing on recruiting veterans and service members transitioning out of the military, leveraging their expertise in national defense for the evolving challenges of space security. When local talent isn’t available, efforts will target high-cost areas to attract professionals to the region.

As the role of space in defense continues to grow, Colorado Springs is positioned to be a key player in shaping the future of security beyond Earth. Full Story

Will Colorado Springs Go Nuclear?

Courtesy of KRDO

According to KRDO, Colorado Springs Utilities is evaluating Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) as a potential energy source after an independent study suggested they could help meet the state’s carbon-free targets. These reactors are compact, scalable, and emission-free, but they come with high costs and long construction timelines.

Some nuclear projects in other states have faced delays or cancellations, raising concerns about feasibility. A bill in the Colorado legislature could help by reclassifying nuclear energy as "clean," potentially unlocking federal funding. If CSU moves forward, this would be a long-term investment requiring partnerships with other utilities to manage costs and risks. Full Story

🌳 Growing a Legacy: Forester Bids Farewell

City Forester Dennis Will is retiring this month after two decades of service to Colorado Springs. His leadership in tree conservation, forest health assessments, and urban planning has helped shape the city’s natural beauty and strengthen its green spaces.

Under his guidance, the city’s tree canopy has flourished, benefiting residents and the environment alike. As he steps away from his role, the community expresses gratitude for his dedication to keeping Colorado Springs green and growing.

🥾 Trails, Sports & More at Cottonwood Creek Park

Warming trend this weekend if you want to get outside, check out Cottonwood Creek Park. This vibrant 77-acre community space with trails, sports fields, playgrounds, and even a favorite sledding hill.

A 2021 project replaced three softball fields with artificial turf, a move that saves 2.8 million gallons of water annually while expanding the park’s usability. Instead of wasting the original sod, it was repurposed at Palmer Park, improving another local green space while cutting disposal costs. Thanks to voter-approved funding, these improvements ensure the park continues to be a top destination for families, athletes, and outdoor enthusiasts year-round.
