🏆 And the Ice Festival Winner Is…

Cripple Creek’s Ice Festival

Cripple Creek’s Ice Festival celebrated its 25th year with the usual two weekends of stunning sculptures and fierce competition. Did you go?

The top prize went to ‘Boo-e Art!’ for their intricately detailed chariot, as visitors voted ‘Ancient Rome’ as their favorite piece. Even after a quarter-century, the festival keeps drawing in new faces, proving its lasting appeal. But if you missed it, those icy masterpieces won’t be around much longer—the sun is already melting them away! Full Story

🕊️ A Decade Later—Trial Finally Ahead?

Robert Dear

Nearly a decade after the devastating attack at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood, the Supreme Court has denied Robert Dear’s petition, allowing him to be forcibly medicated in an effort to restore competency for trial.

Since 2015, Dear has been deemed incompetent due to severe mental illness, prolonging the legal process and leaving victims and their families in limbo. This latest decision moves the case forward, with a court hearing set for May 16. Full Story

🏞️ Visiting GOG? Road & Trail Closures

Garden of the Gods

Today, Feb 25, access to Garden of the Gods will be limited due to a waterline installation project. Garden Drive and parts of Juniper Way Loop will be closed, but visitors can still access the park via Ridge Road or by walking in from Lot 1. Key attractions like Balanced Rock and the Trading Post remain open, and the Visitor Center will operate as usual.

With over 75% of the project complete, this milestone helps reduce future disruptions. Looking ahead, the Columbia Road entrance will close on Feb 26, affecting nearby trails through April. Plan ahead and check for updates to navigate these temporary changes.

TRIVIA: Discover A Forgotten Chapter In Springs' Coffee History

Did you know that a Colorado Springs coffee company originally established in 1988 had a clever way of advertising its quality? Dern's Tea & Coffee Company, a local roaster back in the day, operating in the early 20th century, left a lasting impression on the city's coffee scene which most likely closed in 1956.

What catchy slogan did this company use to stand out?

Check out these vintage images we found:

  • Dern's was located in the Peyser Building on South Tejon, a prominent commercial spot in downtown Colorado Springs.

🚨 Stolen Tires Led to a Shocking Find

Stolen Tires

Colorado Springs police arrested a woman suspected of stealing $10,000 worth of tires and rims sometime last Thursday at the Phil Long Ford on Briargate. The original owner apparently spotted them listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The investigation led to a bigger discovery—multiple stolen vehicles, trailers, and illegal substances.

While authorities believe the stolen tires were sold to an unsuspecting buyer, detectives are actively working to recover them. If you have any information, police urge you to reach out to CSPD at (719) 444-7000. Full Story
