⚠ Snow, Wind & Travel Woes—Storm Update

As you can see looking out the window, Southern Colorado is in the middle of a storm bringing snow, rain, and powerful winds. Northern El Paso County is under a blizzard warning through this afternoon, while the plains face high wind warnings.
Roads in higher elevations, like Monument Hill and Teller County, are already seeing difficult conditions. Winter weather advisories and storm warnings will remain in effect through this morning, making travel risky in some areas.

👀 Ethics Probe Shake-Up at King Soopers’ Parent Co

Kroger’s CEO (parent company of King Soopers) has resigned following an internal ethics investigation, though details remain undisclosed. The news is drawing strong reactions from local King Soopers employees, whose union has long pushed for better staffing and working conditions. Previous strikes in Colorado highlighted concerns over automation and understaffing, and workers now see this leadership change as a potential turning point.
Meanwhile, Kroger is still dealing with the fallout from its failed Albertsons merger, which has led to legal battles between the two grocery giants. Full Story

🤔 Lawmakers Say No to Tougher Theft Laws

A proposal to toughen penalties for repeat theft offenders in Colorado failed to pass, leaving concerns about rising crime unaddressed. The bill would have ensured repeat felony theft offenders serve a longer portion of their sentence and classified stolen gift cards as forgery. Supporters, including affected business owners, argue that current laws don’t do enough to deter crimes like shoplifting and smash-and-grabs. While this bill won’t move forward, lawmakers may explore a ballot initiative to tackle theft-related issues in the future. Full Story

🎶 TRIVIA: The Driving Force Behind CO Springs' Symphony's Rise To Fame

For Women’s History Month…did you know that a trailblazing woman helped transform the Colorado Springs Symphony into a nationally recognized organization? Bee Vradenburg, a visionary leader, served as the symphony's general manager for nearly four decades, nurturing its growth from humble beginnings.
What year did Bee Vradenburg begin her remarkable tenure as the general manager of the Colorado Springs Symphony?
Bee started her journey with the symphony in a small setting, operating out of her living room with a modest budget of only $25,000. By the time she retired in 1990, she had grown the organization into a thriving ensemble with a significant budget of $2 million that consistently operated in the black, and national recognition.
Under Bee's leadership, the symphony flourished both financially and artistically. She was instrumental in shepherding the capital campaign and construction of the Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts, which opened in 1982 and remains a cultural cornerstone of the city.
Even after her retirement, Bee's commitment to the arts community continued until her death in 2000. Her legacy lives on through the Bee Vradenburg Foundation, established in 2002, which supports and nurtures the region's vibrant arts scene.
Answer: Bee Vradenburg began her tenure as the general manager of the Colorado Springs Symphony in 1953. *Source
