🏞️ Love Pulpit Rock? Big Changes Are on the Way

Pulpit Rock

Colorado Springs has received a $250,000 grant to enhance Austin Bluffs Open Space, including a new half-mile hiking-only trail to Pulpit Rock’s summit with stone steps for stability. The project will also add nearly 2.5 miles of multi-use trails, restore damaged areas by closing illegal paths, and upgrade parking lots for better visitor access.

These updates support the city's long-term plan for the open space, ensuring safer, more sustainable trails while preserving the natural beauty of this popular outdoor destination.

🌦️ La Niña Is Weakening—What That Means for Us

ENSO-neutral pattern

Southern Colorado has been experiencing a dry stretch, raising concerns about wildfire risks. However, the latest forecast suggests a transition from La Niña to an ENSO-neutral pattern, which typically brings more stable precipitation and temperatures.

This shift is expected to take hold between February and April, with a 75% chance of lasting into summer. If this pattern holds, we could see more balanced moisture levels, offering some relief to the region. Full Story

💊 Pharmacy Shake-Up—Springs Stores Affected

Walgreens closing

Is Walgreens your go-to pharmacy or do you you shop there? This might affect you. They have announced they will close over 500 underperforming stores by the end of 2025, including 14 in Colorado. Two locations in Colorado Springs—one on West Colorado Ave and another on East Platte (Google says this one is already permanently closed)—are among those shutting down.

This is part of a larger trend of store closures as businesses adjust to changing consumer habits and economic pressures. With these closures, customers may need to seek out alternative pharmacies for prescriptions and everyday essentials. Full Story

🚨 Federal Raid in Colorado Springs

Federal Raid in Colorado Springs

Federal agents have indicted two Colorado Springs men accused of running an illegal weapons operation near S Academy, north of Ft Carson. Authorities say the duo 3D-printed machine gun conversion devices and disguised them in Lego boxes before shipping them nationwide. A recent raid uncovered around 300 illegal devices and ghost guns inside their home. If convicted, both men face up to 10 years in prison. Full Story
