🧱 15 Homes Closer to Historic Status

A pocket of historic homes near downtown Colorado Springs, known as the Parkside neighborhood, is on track to receive a Historic Protection Overlay. The designation, initiated by the Historic Uptown Neighborhood Association, would apply to 15 homes that reflect a wide range of architectural history—from the late 1800s through the mid-1900s.

If approved by City Council, the overlay will help preserve the neighborhood's character by requiring city review for major renovations, while also offering tax credits for restoration projects. For many residents, it’s about honoring the stories embedded in their homes and ensuring their legacy continues. Full Story

In a city where military service is a source of pride and identity, one family in Colorado Springs has begun to connect a troubling pattern of illness—including multiple cancers and kidney diseases—to long-term exposure to PFAS, toxic chemicals once used in firefighting foam at nearby military bases.

While the dangers of these “forever chemicals” were known within the military as far back as the 1970s, they continued to be used for decades, contaminating water supplies in communities like Widefield. The emotional weight is heavy for families who served their country, only to learn their sacrifices may have come with unseen costs. The broader implications suggest a far-reaching and underacknowledged crisis affecting both current and former military communities. Full Story

Colorado State Patrol is urging drivers to stay composed as road rage tends to spike with warmer weather. In Colorado Springs, a fatal crash on I-25 was recently attributed to road rage, and past incidents—including a shooting near Fort Carson—highlight just how serious things can get.

With Colorado ranking fifth in the country for aggressive drivers and nearly 55,000 reports last year, CSP reminds drivers not to retaliate, to document incidents when safe, and to call in reports. Taking a breath and staying calm might be the best protection you have on the road. Full Story
