🚧 Overnight Closures You Should Know

Construction kicks off this week on Dublin Blvd

Construction kicks off this week on Dublin Blvd as part of a major two-year upgrade that will add lanes, trail connections, medians, and improved drainage.

The first step involves two overnight closures, tonight and tomorrow night, 7pm-5:30am, between Black Forest/Shimmering Creek and Peterson Road, so crews can shift traffic and set up safety barriers. Detours will be marked, and local access preserved. Once that shift is in place, crews begin work near Sand Creek.

The full project runs through late 2026, aiming to improve safety and flow for everyone — drivers, walkers, and cyclists alike.

đź’” After 27 Years, This Group Says Goodbye

Mothers of Murdered Youth

Mothers of Murdered Youth, a Colorado Springs nonprofit that supported grieving parents and advocated against youth violence, is closing after 27 years due to financial strain and health concerns.

The group provided a rare kind of community—one formed in the aftermath of tragedy, but rooted in healing and remembrance. While the nonprofit itself is ending, the legacy of compassion and advocacy will live on through its members. A final gathering is planned for this Saturday, open to all who wish to attend or honor its work. Full Story

🌲 Free Chipping Is Back!

Free Chipping

Colorado Springs Fire Department’s free chipping program is back for neighborhoods in wildland-urban interface zones, offering homeowners a chance to reduce wildfire risk by removing excess brush and vegetation.

Registration is required at least a week before your neighborhood’s scheduled date (starting May 19), and residents must meet with CSFD — either at a wildfire town hall, neighborhood meeting, or free onsite consultation. Last year saw record participation, and this year’s schedule is now available online. Full Story

👗TRIVIA: What Was the “Athleisure” of Victorian Colorado Springs?

wrapper tea gown

Did you know Victorian women in Colorado Springs had a secret weapon for comfort and style? Imagine a time when getting dressed meant layers of stiff corsets and endless buttons—except for one ingenious invention: the wrapper tea gown.

Why did the wrapper tea gown become such a hit among Victorian women, even though it looks so formal to us today?

This was the “athleisure” of the 1880s, letting women lounge at home or host friends in elegant fabrics without the squeeze of a corset. The McAllister House Museum has a gorgeous blue velvet example from the era, complete with clever details like snaps replacing buttons—proof that even Victorian ladies loved a good life hack.

Answer: because it was designed to be slipped on and fastened in front, the wrapper tea gown gave women rare freedom to dress themselves and relax in style—no maid or tight corset required! Source
