🌳 Northeast Colorado Springs to Get New Park

The city of Colorado Springs is working to address a shortage of parkland in the northeast by acquiring 5.75 acres of open space from Academy School District 20, expanding Cumbre Vista Park to 10.9 acres near Powers and Woodmen. The new park will serve residents of nearby neighborhoods like Powerwood 2 and The Ridge at Woodmen, who will have easy access to the greenspace. While the land purchase is moving forward, development of the park will require additional funding and may take time to complete. Full Story

🛤TRIVIA: How Did A Railway Turn Into A World-Famous Workout?
Today, let’s talk about our amazing, natural fitness opportunities right here in our backyard!

The Manitou Incline is one of our local, most iconic-and daunting-fitness challenges, but its roots go far beyond sweat and sore calves. Built in 1907, the Incline originally served as a cable car track to haul materials up Pikes Peak for a hydroelectric plant and water line.
Once construction wrapped, the track was repurposed into a tourist railway, offering visitors a thrilling ride and sweeping mountain views. For decades, the Incline was a must-do for adventurous tourists and locals alike, until a rockslide in 1990 forced its closure.
That didn’t stop determined hikers, who continued to climb the abandoned route, earning the trail a reputation for both its difficulty and its “outlaw” spirit. After years of debate, negotiations, and even an act of Congress, the Incline was finally legalized for public use. Today, with over 2,700 steps and a 2,000-foot vertical gain in less than a mile, it attracts athletes, weekend warriors, and anyone looking for a true local experience.
In what year did the Manitou Incline officially open as a legal public hiking trail?

For years, determined locals continued to hike the challenging route, even as its legal status remained uncertain. It now draws fitness enthusiasts from around the world, eager to conquer its grueling ascent and experience breathtaking views of the city below. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just looking for a new challenge, the Incline offers a unique way to push your limits and connect with Colorado Springs’ adventurous spirit. *Source
