⚠️This Everyday Habit Sent a Worker to the ICU
Cautionary tale! Colorado Springs sanitation worker is fighting for his life after being exposed to sulfuric acid while collecting trash on N Chelton Rd. He suffered severe chemical burns and had to be airlifted to Denver.
The acid, improperly placed in a residential bin, highlights the dangers workers face and reinforces the importance of following hazardous waste disposal guidelines. Fire officials stress that chemicals should never be thrown in regular trash—they pose serious risks not only to sanitation crews but also to public health and safety.
✏️Local Students Are Learning With AI—Are You?
District 11 has begun integrating artificial intelligence into its classrooms through a program called Power School AI. Teachers are using the tool to enhance instruction and prepare students for future careers while still maintaining ethical standards and privacy. Students are even using AI to improve their writing by comparing their own essays to AI-generated versions. Full Story

💡 Utilities Budget Balloons Again

Colorado Springs Utilities is proposing a $2.2 billion budget for 2026, marking another significant increase as part of its long-term plan to overhaul infrastructure through 2030. Although the utility isn't suggesting a fresh rate hike right now, the previously approved five-year rate increase will still affect your bill in 2026 — adding roughly $14 more for the average residential customer.
With budget hearings set for Oct, it’s worth paying attention, especially if you’re trying to plan around rising costs. Changes like these highlight just how quickly things shift, which is why staying informed — and adapting smartly — matters more than ever. Full Story
