π§ Academy And Powers Closures Ahead

Heads up if your evening commute includes South Academyβovernight lane and full closures began last night and will continue through Thursday as CDOT crews work on road milling and paving. Affected areas include the stretch between I-25 and US 85/87, with multiple ramps and underpasses also closed.
Closures will run from 7pm to 5:30am, and while detours are in place, it might be a good week to adjust your travel times or find alternate routes. This is part of the South Academy Boulevard Widening Project, which aims to improve traffic flow in the long run. Full Story

If youβre driving near the airport at night this coming weekβCDOT is repaving the intersection of Powers and Milton E. Proby Pkwy. Started last night through Thursday, crews will be working overnight between 6pm-5am, and youβll see single-lane traffic on Powers plus full closures on Milton E. Proby in both directions. Several detours will be in place depending on your route, so allow extra time, especially if you're headed to the airport or using those roads late. The good news? This work will smooth things out and extend the life of the road.

π« Tariff Trouble Halts Shipments

International shipping is hitting a speed bump. Several European countries, including Germany, France, and Italy, have stopped sending packages to the US for now, citing uncertainty over how new import tariffsβset to begin Aug 29βwill be handled. While this move is raising eyebrows, local economists say itβs likely weβll see a rise in prices for some foreign goods. Still, much remains uncertain, especially since many of these tariffs are part of ongoing negotiations and may not stick. For now, the ripple effect might not be hugeβbut if youβve got your eye on specialty imports, donβt be surprised if costs start to climb. Full Story
π More Safety and Kindness Downtown

If youβve seen folks in neon green vests around downtown lately, donβt worryβtheyβre not here to ticket you. These are part of a growing team of ambassadors with the Clean & Safe Pilot Program, launched this summer to make downtown Colorado Springs a more welcoming place for everyone.
They help with everything from handing out water and picking up trash to assisting people in medical distress or connecting individuals in crisis to the help they need. Youβll find them walking the streets Wed through Sun, 11am to 6pm. And by Sept, the program plans to add two full-time outreach workers to deepen its community support. The goal? A downtown that feels inviting, safe, and neighborlyβfor locals and visitors alike. Full Story
