🏛️ Colorado’s New Laws After Special Session

After Colorado’s special session wrapped up this week, new laws and proposed changes were introduced to address budget shortfalls. One significant change allows healthcare providers, such as Planned Parenthood, to receive state-only funding after losing federal support. Another change revises a ballot question regarding free school lunches, now redirecting funds toward SNAP assistance.
Several bills are still under review, including a proposal to allow the governor to temporarily suspend state programs and one to repeal a reduced insurance tax rate for companies. As these bills move forward, updates will follow. Full Story
🥩 Can You Save Money on Beef With These Options?

As Labor Day approaches, many are getting ready to fire up the grill, but rising beef prices are causing concern in Southern Colorado due to low herd numbers. The prices for ground beef have more than doubled in recent years. Local businesses like Centennial Cuts and Ranch Foods Direct offer alternatives by selling locally-raised, high-quality meat without additives, helping customers save while supporting local producers.
While Centennial Cuts attributes the issue to natural industry fluctuations, Ranch Foods Direct believes it’s a result of big corporations driving smaller businesses out, leading to market consolidation. Despite the challenges, these local businesses remain committed to providing affordable, high-quality options to their customers. Full Story

🐻 Colorado Springs Gets Bear-Safe Grant

The city of Colorado Springs is making strides toward a safer, more bear-friendly community with the help of a $110,000 grant from the Human-Bear Conflict Reduction Community Grant. The funds will be used for installing bear-resistant trash containers, offering educational outreach to residents, and supporting local programs on safe living with wildlife. Other Colorado communities, such as Beulah and Woodland Park, are also receiving funds to combat bear-related issues. These efforts are critical as the area grows, promoting both human and wildlife safety.
