📚 Local History - Archives at Risk

August storms left the Old Colorado City Historical Society Museum with a flooded basement, foundation cracks, and water-damaged archives, threatening some of its most important artifacts. Volunteers managed to limit the loss, but the nonprofit now faces more than $50,000 in needed repairs. Since it receives no government funding, the museum is turning to the community for support to preserve its historic 1891 building and the local history inside. Donations can be made in person, by mail, or online, helping ensure this community landmark continues sharing Colorado City’s rich past.
☕ New Coffee Spot by the Trail

Let’s celebrate as the Creekside Coffee House is now open at 6750 N Union, right off Cottonwood Creek Trail in northeast Colorado Springs, Mon-Sat from 9am-3pm. Featuring locally roasted, fair-trade coffee and Colorado-made snacks, it offers indoor seating, a shaded patio, and a peaceful grove by the creek. Beyond serving quality drinks, Creekside gives back monthly to local ministries and community efforts.

It’s the perfect pairing for a day outdoors—take a walk on the trail (see Recreation section below), then relax with a cup of coffee in this one-of-a-kind setting.

😬 Local Restaurant Violations Exposed

Health inspectors recently shut down Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano in Briargate after finding 19 violations during an Aug 25 inspection. The upscale restaurant was cited for serious issues, including poor handwashing, barehanded food handling, missing date labels on food, staff eating in the kitchen, and even no soap anywhere in the building. Biaggi’s reopened two days later but is still awaiting a full re-inspection.
Several other restaurants also failed inspections, while many earned top marks. Here’s the quick rundown (one chain at different locations was even on both lists!) ⬇️
❌ Failing Scores (re-inspection required):
Mimi’s Café – 7133 N Academy
Egglush – 1025 S Sierra Madre St
The Point Bar & Grill – 1545 S 8th St
Trivelli’s Hoagies – 4547 Austin Bluffs
Awi Sushi – 1286 Interquest
Milano Pizza & Italian Kitchen – 750 Citadel Dr
Fountain Creek Winery – 606 S Santa Fe Ave
🥇 Perfect Scores! Two restaurants had no violations. They are Honey Hill Charcuterie at 1520 Verde Dr and Mariscos El Rey #4 at 1811 S Academy.
Mariscos El Rey #4 is quickly earning fans for its bold Sinaloa-style seafood dishes, like ceviches, Agua Chile, and Pescado Zarandeado. Full Story

✅ High Scores:
Lolley’s Ice Cream – 174 Washington St
Awi Sushi – 5070 N Nevada Ave
Upstate Pizzeria – 4621 Austin Bluffs Pkwy
Health inspection results across El Paso County are available online for those wanting to check their favorite spots.
*Note: Most local restaurants take food safety incredibly seriously. In fact, many owners respond to violations swiftly and thoroughly, often making fixes the same day while they wait for reinspection.

🥾 Trail Connects Parks & Neighborhoods - Cottonwood Creek

Northern Colorado Springs’ Cottonwood Creek Trail stretches just over 6 miles, running from Frank Castello Park near Powers Blvd to the Pikes Peak Greenway near I-25. With a mostly concrete surface and multiple neighborhood connections, it links popular parks like Cottonwood Creek Community Park, Dublin Park, and Woodland Hills Park, while also offering a dirt loop option between Union and Rangewood.
The trail is accessible for walkers, cyclists, strollers, and wheelchairs, and future plans call for extending it northeast to connect with Sand Creek Trail near Black Forest.
Location: Cottonwood Creek Park - 7040 Rangewood Dr.
Trail end points: Corporate Dr under I-25 and E Woodmen and Austin Bluffs
