🚨 PSA: Silent Sign for Help

β€œSignal for Help”

A hand signal known as the β€œSignal for Help” is quietly saving lives by allowing abuse victims to alert others when they can’t speak out. Recently, it helped lead to an arrest after a bystander noticed and called police (this could be you one day.)

With local shelters stretched thin and domestic violence cases on the rise, experts urge everyone to recognize the sign and be alert when in public. If you see it, don’t intervene directlyβ€”call 911 or alert security. Full Story

πŸ‚ The 1 Thing That Could Be Killing Your Trees

The 1 Thing That Could Be Killing Your Trees

In this eye-opening video, Barringtonβ€”owner of Green And Growing, LLC in Colorado Springsβ€”shows how improperly installed tree supports can do more harm than good. While these straps are meant to stabilize young trees, Barrington reveals that when they’re too tight, they can actually choke off vital nutrients, stunting growth or even killing the tree.

He contrasts struggling trees with one that had its supports break off naturallyβ€”and it’s thriving, full of lush green leaves. The takeaway? Sometimes nature knows best, and a little freedom can lead to flourishing growth.

🚧 Overnight COS Closures

South Academy Boulevard Widening Project

Tonight through Sept 11 from 7pm-5:30am, northbound S Academy between US 85/87 and Milton Proby Pkwy will be fully closed overnight for paving work, with a signed detour in place.

Drivers will also continue to see lane reductions between Venetucci and Coventry Dr, narrowed lanes on bridges, and ramp realignments as part of ongoing improvements. These changes, expected to last through the month, may cause delays during peak travel times, so plan extra time, merge early, and stay alert near construction zones.

πŸ’ƒ TRIVIA: Forgotten Family, Remembered Roots

Conejos Neighborhood, ca. 1969

Step back in time to the Conejos Neighborhoodβ€”once a close-knit enclave just south of downtown Colorado Springs, where generations of Hispanic families grew up side by side from the 1920s through the 1990s. This was a four block neighborhood located south of Colorado Ave, north of the former Martin Drake Power Plant, east of Monument Creek, and west of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad tracks.

Life in Conejos meant backyard weddings, block parties, and sharing home-cooked meals with neighbors who felt more like family. But the city’s plan to redevelop downtown changed everything: homes and businesses were cleared to create America the Beautiful Park, leaving behind just one historic building.

Which original Conejos Neighborhood building still stands today, connecting generations to its history?

Every September, past residents and their descendants gather at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum (Sept 13, 2025, 10am-2pm) to honor the resilient spirit and loving legacy of the Conejos Neighborhood, trading memories to keep a vanished community’s heart alive.

Answer: The Chadbourn Community Church (formerly the Spanish Gospel Mission) *Source
