๐จโ๐ Our Community Remembers the Brave

This weekend, Colorado Springs will once again become the heart of remembrance and unity as thousands gather for the 39th annual IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial. More names will be added to the wall at Memorial Park โ each one representing a life lost in service.
Tomorrow at 11am, families, firefighters, and supporters from across the country and Canada will join together to honor the 311 fallen who died this past year. The wall will then list a total of 9,846 firefighters lost since 1918.
The downtown area around Jack Quinnโs will come alive with emotion both tonight and tomorrow night at 8pm, as bagpipes and drums echo through the streets in a powerful procession of grief, pride, and solidarity.
While this event will be filled with heavy hearts, itโs also a beautiful reminder of how our city rallies to support those whoโve given everything. Firefighters from Local 5 arenโt just hosting โ theyโre going all in, welcoming and caring for out-of-town families with the kind of compassion that defines the profession.
If you see the crowds or hear the music, take a moment to pause. You're witnessing a sacred tradition, right here in our community. Full Story
๐ฝ Pikes Peak Race Weekend Returns

This weekend, Manitou Springs will host the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon, attracting thousands of runners and supporters from around the world to our area. Saturday features the Ascent โ a 13.1-mile climb up 7,800 feet to the summit โ while Sundayโs marathon adds a full descent for the full 26.2 miles. Both races begin at 7am in front of City Hall, with pre-race activities starting at 5:30am. An expo with vendors, music, and a beer garden will be open Fri and Sat at Memorial Park in Manitou. Expect more traffic and visitors around town โ and plenty of inspiration in the air!
๐คข Moldy Food vs ๐ฝ Sparkling Kitchen - Inspections Are In

Another round of restaurant inspection results is in, and unfortunately, a familiar food court name is back on the naughty list. If youโre in the mall and want to stop for a bite, you might want to think againโฆ Milano Pizza & Italian Kitchen at Chapel Hills Mall has failed its third health inspection this year โ and this time, inspectors found mold growing on ham, improperly stored meatballs, and Stromboliโs sitting below safe temperatures. The shop is now awaiting another re-inspection.
Several other restaurants also failed inspections, while many earned top marks. Hereโs the quick rundown (one chain at different locations was even on both lists!) โฌ๏ธ
โ Failing Scores (re-inspection required):
Western Omelette (S. Walnut St) โ 6 violations
Saigon Tapioca (Galley Rd) โ 12 violations (Passed re-inspection this past Wed with 6 remaining violations)
๐ฅ Top Scores! Meanwhile, one local Indian restaurant is proving that cleanliness and flavor can go hand-in-hand. Turmeric Indian Cuisine (Powers & Research), scored a perfect inspection โ and their kitchen cleaning game is as strong as their tikka masala. Full Story

โ High Scores:
Angry Chicken (S Nevada Ave) โ 2 violations
Wok In Wok Out (N Carefree Cir) โ 2 violations
Sahara Mediterranean Cafรฉ (Manitou Springs) โ 2 violations
Health inspection results across El Paso County are available online for those wanting to check their favorite spots.
*Note: Most local restaurants take food safety incredibly seriously. In fact, many owners respond to violations swiftly and thoroughly, often making fixes the same day while they wait for reinspection.

๐ Apple Samoas

Recipe by eating bird food
Crunchy apple slices are topped with a coconut almond butter mixture and drizzled with melted chocolate. The combo is SO delicious, youโre going to be obsessed as soon as you take your first bite!

๐ฅพ 1.4-Mile Local Loop Youโll Love - High Arches Trail

Looking to avoid the crowds of this weekendโs events and get outdoors while the weather is still nice? Then you want to head to the High Arches Trail and Ute Valley Regional Park Trail Loop. This trail is a 1.4-mile, easy-rated loop trail located off Vindicator Drive in northwest Colorado Springs.
With just 137 feet of elevation gain, itโs a gentle walk that takes about 30โ45 min to complete. The path is mostly flat and wide, though there is one slightly steeper section around the midpoint. Amenities include restrooms at the trailhead and multiple connecting trail options for those who want to explore further. Visitors love the views and well-marked paths but suggest arriving early due to limited parking, and bringing sun protection as shade is minimal.
Location: 1705 Vindicator Dr
