🤝 Poor Richard's Passed the Torch

Poor Richard's Block Party

Yesterday's downtown block party felt like a love letter to Colorado Springs because in many ways, it was. After nearly 51 years running Poor Richard's, Richard Skorman and Patricia Seator officially handed the keys to a new generation, surrounded by a crowd of neighbors, regulars, and community friends who've called this place home for decades.

Taking over are Joe Cole, a familiar face as a former FOX21 news director and his wife Sarah Gibeau-Cole, a Colorado Springs native who grew up wandering Poor Richard's aisles. The couple has pledged to keep the spirit alive: the bookstore, the toy shop, the pizza, the coffee, and above all, the community. Mayor Yemi and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser were among those on hand to celebrate.

Richard plans to focus on Richard's Rubbish Roundup, his environmental nonprofit, while Patricia will continue teaching Qigong in the community she loves. The torch has been passed and Poor Richard's isn't going anywhere.

🚧 This Could Mess Up Your Drive

Beginning 9am today, May 4, drivers traveling southbound on Powers will no longer be able to make the left turn onto Airport Rd. Instead, all traffic heading to Airport Road or the west gate of Peterson Space Force Base will be directed to a new right-side off-ramp as part of the updated interchange.

In the days following, crews will continue work with overnight restriping on May 6 and additional nighttime closures later in May for sign installation. Drivers should expect shifting traffic patterns, stay alert for construction activity, and allow a little extra time while these improvements are completed.

🍑 No Peaches This Summer?

Every year, many of us look forward to that first bite of fresh, local fruit…peaches, cherries, apples straight from Colorado orchards. And almost every year, there’s that one late frost that changes everything.

This year, that moment hit hard.

c in mid-April, wiping out nearly the entire crop. After an unusually warm start to the season, trees had already begun developing fruit, leaving them especially vulnerable when temperatures suddenly dropped.

Farmers did everything they could to protect their orchards through the night, but in the end, most fruits didn’t survive. The impact won’t just stay on the farms, it will ripple into farmers markets, local stores, and across the state, with fewer Colorado-grown fruits available this season. Full Story
