🚧 Another Major Traffic Headache

Colorado Springs Utilities is moving into the final phase of its Galley Road water main improvement project, bringing another temporary traffic disruption to the east side.

Beginning today, June 1, Galley Road will close in both directions between Wooten and Babcock Roads for roughly one week while crews connect a new north-to-south water main line into the existing system near the Wooten intersection.

Access to nearby homes and businesses will remain open during the work, but drivers should expect detours, slower traffic, and construction activity throughout the area. Full Story

🛰️ National Security Comes to COS

Colorado Springs just received another major vote of confidence from the nation’s growing space and defense sectors.

City leaders and military officials announced that the U.S. Space Force will establish its new Infrastructure Program Acquisition Executive in Colorado Springs, alongside a new $250 million operations facility tied to Schriever Space Force Base. The expansion is expected to bring roughly 2,500 civilian jobs to the region while strengthening the city’s role in national security and space operations.

Local leaders say the investment reflects Colorado Springs’ long-standing relationship with the military community, its skilled workforce, and the region’s growing importance in the future of space defense and technology.

For a city already closely tied to the defense industry, this marks another major chapter in Colorado Springs’ continuing evolution as a national hub for space operations.

🌟 TIME Honors a COS Champion

Colorado Springs is celebrating a woman whose philanthropy has left a lasting mark both nationally and right here at home.

Mayor Yemi congratulated Lyda Hill after she was named one of TIME Magazine’s Top 100 Philanthropists in the country, recognizing decades of giving focused on science, health, education, conservation, and community impact.

Locally, many people know Hill through her support of the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center and her continued investment in preserving the natural beauty that helps define the Pikes Peak area. Nationally, her philanthropy has supported cancer research, STEM education, women in science, environmental conservation, and hundreds of nonprofit organizations.

A cancer survivor herself, Hill has spent years funding research and innovation aimed at improving lives and expanding opportunities for future generations.

🦵 Evening Ritual for Leg Relief

A simple 5-minute leg circulation exercise using pillows and a wall is helping many people relieve heavy, tired, swollen legs at home, especially older adults dealing with varicose vein discomfort. 👇

Remember, our Local Senior wellness educator Kristen Nielsen, founder of TogetherWon shares simple ways to gently train your brain and body together, helping you feel more confident about your balance over time.

I have to be honest, I’ve watch these myself and I am in constant admiration of how Kristen challenges us to be stronger in such simple ways. We are so fortunate to have her wisdom 2x per month here to help us navigate real life with confidence.
