🎆 What's Actually Legal for the 4th This Year?

Before you plan a backyard show, here's the reminder worth repeating every year: fireworks of any kind are illegal within Colorado Springs city limits, full stop sparklers included. Get caught and you're looking at a fine up to $2,500 and as much as 189 days in jail. With dry conditions around the region, the fire department isn't messing around this year.

The good news? There's no shortage of legal ways to see a real show. The Star Spangled Symphony lights up Ford Amphitheater on July 4th from 6:30-10pm (tickets $18-$25 and more in our Events section below). Prefer free? Head to the community shows at Banning Lewis Ranch or Palmer Lake. Same sky, same sparkle, zero risk of a citation.

🏘️ Affordable Living Comes Downtown

Courtesy: Michael G. Seamans, The Gazette

One of downtown Colorado Springs' longtime buildings has been given a new purpose. The former Crawford House, once used as transitional housing for homeless veterans, has been renovated into 8 affordable apartments aimed at helping people who have been priced out of the downtown housing market.

The project was led by former Navy SEAL Aaron Smith, who invested more than $750,000 to transform the property while preserving its history. The apartments are open to a variety of renters, including veterans, working individuals, single parents, and those using housing assistance vouchers.

With Colorado Springs continuing to face a significant housing shortage, projects like this offer another option for residents looking for more affordable places to live close to the city's core. Full Story

Gas Prices Keep Sliding

There's a little good news at the gas pump this week. The average price of regular gasoline in Colorado Springs has dipped below $4 per gallon, giving local drivers a slight break after weeks of higher prices.

Monday's citywide average was $3.97 per gallon, which is now lower than both the Colorado and national averages. Some stations around town were reporting prices as low as the mid-$3.50 range. Check GasBuddy for prices around town.

Experts say the recent drop is tied to easing concerns in global oil markets. While prices could still change, the current trend suggests drivers may continue seeing some relief if conditions remain stable. We can only hope they keep going down to get to “reasonable prices” which they are still far from, IMHO.

🤔 If Your Brain Keeps Showing You Problems, It's Not Bad Luck
