🚧 Heads Up: Roads Closing Today

Heads up when you're driving around Colorado Springs this week. Several road projects are set to begin today, Mon, July 6, and a few could slow down your commute.

The biggest impact will be on Pikes Peak Ave, where bridge repairs over Shooks Run will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction through October. Expect delays, especially during work hours from 7am to 7pm. The Shooks Run Trail will remain open, and at least one sidewalk across the bridge will stay accessible.

  • 🚧 North Gate Blvd: Reduced to one lane in each direction between the roundabout east of I-25 and Struthers Rd for storm water improvements.

  • 🚧 Industry Rd: Closed for about 3 weeks between Marksheffel and Capital Dr for bridge repairs and paving. Local business access will remain open, but through traffic will need to use detours.

  • 🚧 Jersey Ln & Bickley St (Security-Widefield): Intersection closed for 3-4 weeks while crews install a safer pedestrian crossing near Widefield Elementary.

  • 🚧 Cree Dr & Seneca Rd: Intersection closed for about 10 working days while crews replace the roadway crossing.

🍞 A First Taste: Our New Bakery Opens TODAY!

We’re excited to welcome you to our soft, soft launch today, Mon, July 6th at our new home:

πŸ“ 4935 Centennial Blvd, Suite A, Colorado Springs, CO 80919
⏰ Hours: 7:00am - 7:00pm, open seven days a week!

Stop by for fresh bread, cinnamon rolls, and coffee, and sample what’s in store for our future. Come meet us, taste the goodness with free samples, and see what’s taking shape! πŸ₯–β˜•βœ¨

We’re just getting started, and we’d love to see you! πŸ˜„

πŸ”₯ Aspen Acres Fire: Air Support Gains Ground

As of last night (7/5), the Aspen Acres Fire stands at 89,055 acres and 14% contained, with 1,101 personnel working the lines. After days of tough conditions, a combination of better weather and increased air support has crews reporting real progress. Four Super Scooper aircraft from Bridger Aerospace have been running continuous water drops on active fire edges, and ground crews are strengthening containment in multiple areas.

Sunday evening brought a new challenge: a passing thunder cell created strong outflow winds that pushed the fire northwest toward Wetmore and Greenwood. Resources including air support were redirected to protect structures in those communities, and the night shift has been bolstered in that area. Evacuation orders remain in effect, and fire officials are watching closely for incoming thunderstorms that could bring dry lightning and erratic winds.

🏘️ Historic Uptown's New Signs

A year ago, Historic Uptown launched a fundraising campaign to install 88 new street signs across 44 intersections throughout the neighborhood. It was a big community goal, and thanks to participants in the Underline event and bake sale fundraisers, they've just hit a milestone worth noticing: test signs have been mounted along the neighborhood's northernmost boundary. Seeing them up for the first time is a real moment for this community.

Fundraising is still ongoing, and every intersection still needs your help. For $79, you can fund a sign and leave a permanent mark on the neighborhood identity. Just note which intersection you'd like to sponsor when you donate.
