🚧 Heads Up: These Roads Could Slow You Down

S Academy Blvd Improvements Project map

Credit: City of Colorado Springs

Here's what drivers need to know this week near S Academy and Hancock:

  • Sept 14 at 9 am-Sept 18 at 5 pm: Southbound S Academy will be reduced to one lane near Hancock Expressway while crews excavate the roadway and install storm sewer structures

  • Fri, Sept 18 at 7 pm: A segment of Hancock immediately west of S Academy will close as the next phase of construction begins

  • Business and property access will remain open throughout the work

  • Drivers should expect delays, watch for workers and equipment, and consider an alternate route when possible

This work is part of the S Academy Blvd Improvements Project, which is improving roadway safety, drainage, mobility and pedestrian access along the corridor

🔊 90 dB vs 41 dB: Who’s Right About Taurus Data Center?

Project Taurus Data Center opposition protest

A proposed large-scale AI data center at the former Intel facility is drawing sharply different views ahead of a Colorado Springs City Council hearing this Thurs, Sept 17, starting at 9 am at the Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts, 190 S. Cascade Ave.

Opponents of Project Taurus held a demonstration using sound approaching 90 decibels to illustrate their concerns about potential noise and are also questioning the facility's expected water and electricity use and its proximity to neighborhoods.

Developer Raeden disputes that representation, pointing to a project noise study estimating operations at about 41 decibels, below the city's 55-decibel limit, and says the development has followed the required review process. The Planning Commission approved a development plan modification July 23, but 2 appeals will now go before City Council. Public comment will be limited to 120 speakers, with two minutes allotted to each person. Full Story
