postpone a decision on Project Taurus until April 13, 2027

After more than 9 hours of testimony and discussion, Colorado Springs City Council voted 7-2 to postpone a decision on Project Taurus until April 13, 2027. The proposed 50-megawatt AI data center at the former Intel facility near Garden of the Gods and Centennial drew substantial opposition over concerns including noise, power and water use, environmental impacts and its proximity to neighborhoods, while supporters emphasized economic development and the city's business climate.

Council members also raised questions about noise protections and the project's power agreement with Colorado Springs Utilities, contributing to the decision to allow more time before voting. The already tense meeting took a dramatic turn when a disruption involving a megaphone escalated into a confrontation with police, ultimately resulting in 3 arrests and the use of a Taser.

Even opponents were divided over the postponement, with some frustrated that Council did not decide the appeals immediately and others welcoming more time to scrutinize the project or pursue a moratorium. The next decision date falls one week after the city's municipal election, meaning this contentious local debate will continue into the new year and possibly a new board. Full Story
