♻️ Something's Changing at Your Curb
If you recycle curbside in Colorado Springs, something good is coming. Republic Services is installing new optical sorting technology that will capture up to 12% more recyclable materials that would otherwise head to the landfill.
The upgrade is part of Colorado's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program, which puts the cost on manufacturers of paper and packaging, not on you. That means no extra charge on your end to have your recycling picked up curbside.
Colorado's recycling rates currently fall below the national average, but this program aims to nearly double them. With EPR rolling out, Republic Services expects a 30% jump in overall recycling participation from Colorado Springs residents. Full Story

⚖️ OCC: Final Vote This Morning
If you live on the Westside, today matters. Colorado Springs City Council is holding its final vote this morning on the Old Colorado City Downtown Development Authority (DDA), a board that OCC voters created in 2024 and that has not been allowed to spend a single dollar yet.
The meeting starts at 9am at City Hall (107 N Nevada Ave, Council Chambers on the 3rd floor). The DDA is Item 9.A under Unfinished Business. There are roughly two hours of other business ahead of it, but Council can reorder the agenda. If you'd like to speak, you can sign up on 9.A when you arrive.

🎬 Free Screening: You'll Rethink Aging
Mark Oct 15 on your calendar. UCCS is hosting a free community screening of Optics of Aging, an award-winning documentary that challenges stereotypes and celebrates the beauty and wisdom that comes with getting older.
The film follows five remarkable elders whose stories dissolve common myths about old age and offer a genuinely uplifting perspective on life well-lived. It has been shown at film festivals nationwide and keeps earning devoted audiences wherever it screens.
After the film, stick around for a live Q&A via Zoom with director and producer Michelle Le Brun. The event is at the ENT Center for the Arts (5225 N. Nevada Ave.) from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. It's free and open to all, but registration is required. Full Story
🛩️ TRIVIA: History Takes Flight, Can You Guess Where?
Did you know Colorado Springs is home to a museum where World War II aircraft are not only preserved, but restored to fly again? The National Museum of World War II Aviation opened to the public in Oct 2012 after its founders worked with the City of Colorado Springs to build a permanent home at the airport. Today, its collection includes 28 fully restored flying aircraft, plus thousands of artifacts and historical documents that tell the story of aviation’s role in World War II.
What is the nickname of the museum’s restored combat-veteran P-38 Lightning?
The museum was created to help visitors understand not just the airplanes, but the people, technology, and teamwork needed to keep them flying. Its collection includes restored World War II vehicles used by American forces and their allies, particularly the soldiers and Marines who defended forward air bases where airmen and naval aviators operated.
