🐕 The Secret To Bringing Them Back 🕊️
🎁 Unwrapping it feels like welcoming your loved one home
There's a moment that happens when someone opens the perfect gift. The room goes quiet. Their eyes fill before they can say a single word, because looking back at them is a hand-painted, familiar face, every whisker and soft patch of fur rendered in watercolor so tender it almost breathes. The dog who waited for you by the door every night. The cat who curled into your lap and purred so loudly you could feel it in your chest.
That moment is Beth Orehosky's favorite part of her watercolor creations.
Raised in Atlanta and classically trained at the University of Georgia, Beth spent years as an elementary school art teacher, helping small hands discover something beautiful inside themselves. Then, during Covid, she did something braver than most of us ever will. She sold her home, moved into a camper van, and chased rivers and watercolor across the country with her dog Veda by her side, before finally landing in Colorado Springs.
What she does now is turn our fur babies into keepsake art. Through River Melon Watercolors, Beth creates custom pet portraits from a client's favorite photo, each one sealed, mounted onto a wood panel, and finished with protective wax. No glass, no glare, ready to hang the moment it's unwrapped. Clients can choose soft, natural tones or her signature rainbow style, which transforms a solid-black pup or plain-white kitty into a burst of color that stops you in the hallway. Because some loves deserve more than a photograph.
Many of the portraits Beth paints honor pets who've already crossed the Rainbow Bridge and having recently said goodbye to her own soul dog, she carries every one of those commissions with the kind of care that only comes from understanding the ache firsthand. It's why her clients so often cry when the final image arrives. It isn't just a painting, It's a visit.

🚧 S Academy Closures Start Today

If your errands take you down S Academy, here's a friendly heads-up so today doesn't catch you off guard. Starting at 9am today, several spots close as crews keep working on the South Academy Boulevard Improvements Project. The good news? Nearby businesses stay open the whole time.
South Murray (east of S Academy), today through Nov 30: New storm sewer and water pipes, fresh paving, and rebuilt sidewalks and curbs. Driveways stay open. Detour: from S Academy, turn east on Chelton Rd, then south on S Murray Blvd.
Sierra Sun Dr, today through Oct 28 (5pm): Repaving plus new sidewalks and curbs. Sierra Springs neighbors can get home from Jet Wing Dr by turning onto High Sierra Pl.
Astrozon Shopping Center driveway (off northbound S Academy, just north of Astrozon Blvd), today through Oct 28 (5pm): You can still reach the shops from Jet Wing Dr or Astrozon Blvd.
No left turn from southbound Jet Wing Dr onto S Academy through Nov 19.
Along the way, expect occasional lane closures 9am-3pm on weekdays, some changes to walking routes, and a few relocated bus stops (details at MMTransit.com). Give yourself a little extra time, slow down around the crews, and take another route when you can. Schedules can shift with the weather.
This voter-approved PPRTA project is the first major rebuild of South Academy since it opened in 1969, making it safer and smoother for drivers and walkers alike.
