Headed south of town this weekend? Plan a little extra time. Northbound S Academy will be closed between Hancock and Drennan from 7pm tonight, Fri, Oct 30, until noon Mon, Nov 2, while crews put in new water and drainage pipes and repave the road.
Your detour: from S Academy, turn west on Drennan, north on Astrozon, then east on Hancock. Need to get to Jet Wing Dr? You can still reach it from Hancock, and nearby businesses stay open.
More work is coming: part of Jet Wing Dr just east of S Academy closes Nov 5-Nov 20. It's all part of the voter-approved project giving S Academy its first major makeover since it opened in 1969, with safer walking routes, smoother traffic and better drainage. Bus riders, some stops may move, so check Mountain Metro. For updates, visit the city's South Academy project page.

π₯Ύ Red Rock Canyon's Easy Contemplative Trail

Want big scenery without a big climb? The Contemplative Trail at Red Rock Canyon Open Space is a gentle loop of about 3 miles on a smooth dirt path that winds between tall red sandstone ridges, with Pikes Peak peeking over the top.
True to its name, there are benches along the way, so you can stop, sip your coffee and just breathe. Near the end, you'll pass an old quarry where this 250-million-year-old sandstone was cut for historic buildings, and signs along the trails share the area's history.
It's free, dogs are welcome on leash (there's even an off-leash loop), and there are portable restrooms at the main lots. Find it just west of town off Ridge Road and Highway 24.
With showers moving in Halloween night and cooler weather after, today's mild sunshine is your window. Pack a brownie for the trail! βοΈ
