📚 Potential Library Closures Spark Funding Talks
The Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) faces a critical decision: either close two branches or secure additional taxpayer funding. A preliminary report suggests shutting down the Rockrimmon and Ruth Holley locations or using a ballot initiative to raise taxes and increase the per capita funding rate. Options include raising the rate from $51 to $61 or $74, enabling the district to build new locations and renovate existing ones. Another proposal involves relocating the Ruth Holley Library to the Powers area.
The PPLD board will review these options at upcoming board meetings and form a committee to make recommendations in the coming months, aiming to find a solution that best serves the community. *Full Master Plan Preliminary Findings
🚧 Traffic Disruptions Ahead for Galley Rd and Marksheffel Projects
Starting today, July 8, a project to replace over 4,400 feet of water main and add new lining to existing infrastructure on Galley Road begins. This initiative aims to improve water quality and reliability for the community. The first phase, from Moffat Circle to Wooten Road, will last until mid-September, with work occurring Mon through Fri from 7am to 5pm. Motorists should anticipate traffic adjustments.
In addition, starting today, Barnes Rd between Antelope Ridge Dr and Marksheffel will close for approximately three months for major road work.Crews will lower and widen the Barnes Rd signalized intersection to improve safety and mobility.
🧓 Springs $10M Senior Center Construction Underway
The city of Colorado Springs and YMCA officials have broken ground on the new Colorado Springs Senior Center, with completion expected by August 2025. The $10 million project is funded by the American Rescue Plan, Lyda Hill Philanthropies, the Colorado Springs Health Foundation, and HUD.
The new facility will offer a range of programs, including yoga, painting, tech classes, and aims to support the growing senior population in El Paso County. The old Senior Center, which served the community for 50 years, has been demolished to make way for the new building and related infrastructure.
👐 Essential Wrist Exercises for Pain-Free Living
Engaging in wrist strengthening exercises is crucial for maintaining good wrist health and functionality. These exercises help to combat common issues such as carpal tunnel and arthritis by enhancing strength and flexibility of the wrist muscles and tendons.
Regular practice can alleviate pain and discomfort, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation. Furthermore, these exercises contribute to better performance in daily tasks and activities, making them an essential part of a healthy routine.
