π³οΈ President Biden Ends Re-Election Campaign
If you haven't heard, last night President Biden has decided not to run for re-election in 2024. He plans to focus on completing his current term and will address the nation later this week to provide more details.
π₯ Fire Strikes Mexican Restaurant Near UCCS
Last night (Sunday), a fire broke out at SeΓ±or Manuel, a Mexican restaurant near the UCCS, prompting a major response from the Colorado Springs Fire Department. The fire, which started around 9:00pm, caused significant damage but resulted in no injuries. Firefighters quickly arrived and controlled the blaze by 9:46. North Nevada was closed during the emergency response, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
π CSU Plans 45% Utility Rate Hike by 2030
Colorado Springs Utilities is proposing a five-year plan to incrementally increase utility rates, potentially raising bills by 45% by 2030. The plan, which aims to meet state clean energy mandates and support community growth, includes annual rate hikes from 2025 to 2029. If approved, average monthly bills could increase from $245.22 to $362.81. The proposal will undergo City Council readings in August and November, with finalization expected after audits in September. Full Story
π Paris 2024 Fest in Colorado Springs
From July 26 to September 8, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs will host the Paris Summer Fest to celebrate the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The festival includes daily events, athlete meet-and-greets, and live broadcasts on a 40-foot LED screen. Highlights include the Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Carly Pattersonβs meet-and-greet, live Olympic-themed painting, and Paralympic celebrations. Most events require museum admission.
