๐ ADUs: A New Housing Solution Arrives
Anchored Tiny Homes of the Rockies is expanding into Southern Colorado, led by Jeff Samuelson and his son, Tate, in response to a new law enabling homeowners to build accessory dwelling units (ADUs) on their properties. This legislation aims to increase affordable housing options and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. While ADUs provide practical solutions for housing aging parents and others, restrictions remain in Colorado Springs, allowing only attached "granny flats." The City is reviewing these rules for potential changes by mid-2025. Full Story
๐ฝ๏ธ The Carter Payne Reinventing Itself
After seven years as a beloved dining venue, The Carter Payne in downtown Colorado Springs will close as a restaurant on September 1, 2024, transitioning to an event center. Housed in the historic Payne Chapel AME Church, the venue has been known for its unique architecture and culinary offerings, including brunch, dinner, and three bars. Owners Jeff Zearfoss and chef Brent Beavers plan to create a community-driven, sustainable space for hosting events. They invite the public to join their final month as a restaurant and watch for details of an upcoming "pivot party" celebrating this new chapter.
๐ซ Citadel Mall, Clubs on Army Off-Limits List
In Colorado Springs, Latin Quarters nightclub owner is dismayed after his business was once again placed on the Army's "Off Limit Areas" list. Despite relocating and upgrading security, the nightclub was included on the July 19 list, which aims to keep military personnel away from high-risk areas. The list includes other local businesses like the Citadel Mall, various bars, and an adult entertainment center. The Army and Fort Carson have yet to clarify the decision-making process, while other affected business owners also express concerns about the list's fairness and removal difficulties.
โ Old Colorado City: A Rich History
In the mid-19th century, a small settlement was established at the eastern entrance to the pass through the mountains to the west in Southern Colorado. This settlement would eventually become a thriving town, attracting farmers, ranchers, freighters, and outfitters. In fact, it would become the first permanent town in the Pikes Peak region.
But before it was known as Colorado City (now Old Colorado City), it had a different name - one that might sound quite out of place today, given the area's rich history and modern charm. Can you guess what it was?
๐ What was the original name of the settlement that was later renamed Colorado City in 1859? |
