🖼️ Showcase Your Nature Art at Fountain Creek!
Fountain Creek Nature Center is seeking local artists and photographers to feature in its monthly rotating art exhibit. Submissions for Jan to June 2025 are now open! This exhibit offers a platform for creatives to display and sell their nature-themed works. A portion of the sales will benefit the Nature Centers. Artists are required to provide at least ten unique pieces that are inspired by Colorado’s natural beauty. The submission deadline is Oct 19, 2024. This initiative not only supports local talent but also contributes to educational programs at the Center. Questions? Contact Victoria Dinkel, CIG, Interpretive Program Specialist at 719-520-6767.
💸 New Utility Rate Hike—What It Means
Colorado Springs City Council has approved a seasonal increase in utility rates for gas and electricity, starting Oct 1. The hike will add approximately $8.71 to the average monthly bill. Many residents are concerned about the added expense, especially those on fixed incomes or tight budgets.
Additionally, Colorado Springs Utilities has proposed a base rate increase starting in 2025 to support infrastructure improvements and comply with regulations, which could raise monthly bills by another $25. While CSU offers tips to help residents manage these costs, including weatherproofing homes and adjusting thermostat settings, the financial strain is palpable for many in the community. Full Story

Weidner Field was the site of a special baby shower for military moms and moms-to-be, organized by PepsiCo and Operation Shower. With a theme of “The Most Magical Shower on Earth,” the event provided a supportive environment where families received essential baby products, including donations from companies like Delta Children and Diaper Genie. The gathering aimed to alleviate some of the stress associated with welcoming a new child, especially for those with deployed partners. The celebration was a show of gratitude for the unique service and sacrifices of military families. Full Story
