🔥 Smoke Over Springs—Here’s What Happened
Yesterday, Colorado Springs residents saw a large plume of black smoke due to a fire that started in a homeless encampment off Mark Dabling near the Sinton Trailhead. The fire ignited several propane tanks and debris, causing explosions that created thick black smoke visible across the city. CSFD and local police responded quickly, with crews staying to put out all remaining hotspots. Thankfully, the fire was contained, and as of now, no injuries have been reported.
😲 Fraud Allegations Lead to UCHealth Payout
UCHealth has agreed to a $23 million settlement over allegations of submitting inflated bills to federal programs like Medicare and TRICARE. Between 2017 and 2021, UCHealth allegedly used the highest billing codes for emergency visits, often regardless of actual care levels provided.
The accusations were made under the False Claims Act, and the whistleblower who reported these practices will receive $3.91 million from the settlement. This case highlights ongoing efforts to ensure accurate billing in federally funded healthcare programs. Full Story
🌶 Vegetarian Stuffed Peppers
Recipe by Cookie & Kate
These stuffed peppers aren’t the kind your mom made. They’re meatless and loaded with fresh flavor. They’re cheesy as shown, yes, but they’re just as good without the cheese. You can easily make these peppers dairy free or vegan.
