π§ Vickers Drive Changes Start Today

Changes are underway on Vickers Dr between N Academy and N Union, reducing the road to one lane in each direction while keeping a center turn lane. This update widens the driving, turn, and bike lanes to meet city safety standards and address speeding and crashes.
Over the past decade, this stretch has seen severe broadside and bike-related accidents. The new configuration, part of the cityβs 2C repaving work, is a proven method to reduce crashes by up to 50%. With traffic volumes well below capacity, the city estimates minimal impacts on travel timesβjust 10 seconds longer on average for most drivers.
π Final Chapter of the Rockrimmon Library

The Rockrimmon Library closed its doors permanently yesterday, marking a somber moment for the Colorado Springs community. Despite a month-long effort by residents to save itβincluding pledges of over $60,000 and offers of volunteer supportβthe Pikes Peak Library District Board of Trustees proceeded with the closure, citing the high cost of the lease.
Just a day before the closure, the community rallied in a heartfelt "Not Saying Goodbye" event, underscoring how the library served as a vital hub for learning and connection. City council members joined in, urging the board to delay the decision for at least a year to explore alternatives, but their efforts were unsuccessful. π’
Although the library is gone, the Rockrimmon neighborhood demonstrated an inspiring sense of unity, proving that even in challenging times, the power of community shines through. Full Story
π A Sustainable Farewell for Our Veterans

Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs has introduced a green burial section, making it one of the first VA cemeteries to offer this eco-friendly option. Green burials avoid chemicals and use biodegradable materials, providing a sustainable way to honor Veterans. This initiative is part of a nationwide effort, alongside cemeteries in Arizona and Florida, to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly burial practices.
The move aligns with the values of many Veterans, particularly younger ones, who see green burials as a dignified and meaningful choice. Both cremated and intact remains can be interred in the new section, which helps preserve natural resources and restore local habitats.
The VA continues to honor the service and memory of Veterans while responding to their evolving preferences. Families can explore this option by visiting the link above for burial benefits and pre-planning.
