🕯️ Honoring Lost Loved Ones This Season
Holidays can be a difficult time for those dealing with the loss of a loved one. Therefore, this Sat, Dec 14, the Voices of Grief Support and Education Center invites the community to "Illuminating Hearts," a free event designed to offer comfort and connection for those in mourning.
Participants will create paper bag lanterns to honor their loved ones and can listen to a panel of individuals who are years into their own grief journeys, providing hope and inspiration. The event fosters a safe, supportive atmosphere without pressure to share, allowing attendees to process their grief at their own pace.
Held at CIVA Charter High School from 10am to noon, the event is free but requires pre-registration via email ([email protected]) or phone (719-286-0612).

💔 Saying Goodbye to Local Favorites
Colorado Springs is seeing notable changes in its small business landscape, with longtime favorites like Mountain Shadow’s Cafe and Drifter’s Hamburgers announcing closures. Challenges such as inflation, rising operational costs, and post-pandemic shifts in consumer behavior have made the market tough for many entrepreneurs.
Downtown Colorado Springs, a hub for local businesses, has seen both closures and openings. In 2024, 23 businesses have closed, but 29 have opened, demonstrating resilience despite the challenges. Events like Small Business Saturday have bolstered foot traffic, though revenue remains mixed across sectors.
Experts emphasize the importance of financial planning and tapping into available resources before issues escalate. While the current market is difficult, easing inflation and strong community support give hope for a brighter future for local businesses. Full Story
🚫 Ornaments Off the Incline
How amazing is the Incline? It’s one of those challenging and yet inviting activities we locals can take advantage of. However during this time of year, Colorado Springs Parks Recreation, and Cultural Services officials have removed ornaments and lights from the tree at the summit of the Manitou Incline, reminding the public of the need to protect the area’s natural ecosystem. Decorations, though well-meaning, pose risks to wildlife, including entanglement and ingestion hazards, as well as chemical pollution.
The city is working to return the personal items left behind and is asking visitors to respect Leave No Trace principles to safeguard the area’s wildlife and resources. While the decorated tree added a festive touch, preserving the natural beauty of the incline remains a top priority for the community. Full Story
🍪 Homemade Tagalongs

*COS TT approved! These are one of FAVORITE cookies and good ingredients, although we use regular chocolate chips, so not vegan for us. 🤤
