📣 Governor’s Speech: What It Means for You
Governor Polis’s 2025 State of the State address yesterday, highlighted bold plans for Colorado’s future. Housing affordability remains a top priority, with initiatives to expand choices, reduce delays, and support innovative building solutions. On public safety, the governor noted a drop in crime rates but called for more funding for law enforcement and youth services to maintain progress. Education took the spotlight with fully funded K-12 schools, free college options for more students, and a commitment to student success.
The governor’s message was clear: by working together, Colorado can continue to thrive as in opportunity and quality of life.

🕵️ Will Crime Stopper Signs Make a Difference?
Downtown Colorado Springs is stepping up its safety efforts through a partnership with Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers. Businesses in the area will display the familiar “STOP” shield signs on their windows, featuring a hotline for reporting crimes anonymously. This initiative aims to discourage criminal activity, complementing the Downtown Partnership's ongoing security measures.
While the effort seeks to create a safer environment for shoppers and merchants, we question the actual impact due to the small size of the stickers as they don’t seem noticeable, especially with the other stickers businesses have in their windows. Do you think these signs will deter criminals? Cast your vote below!

🦽 Grants Open for Disability Access Projects
The Independence Center in Colorado Springs is offering $75,000 in grants through its annual IC Fund, designed to foster independence and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Open to nonprofits across six counties, the fund has a history of supporting meaningful projects like accessible gardens and adaptive medical equipment.
Established in 2010 to honor its founder’s late husband, the IC Fund has distributed grants ranging from $50,000 to $75,000 annually. This year’s application deadline is Jan 31, 2025. If you’re a nonprofit (or know of one) with a vision to improve accessibility, this is your chance to make a real impact.
