✈️ NATIONAL NEWS: A Tragic Reminder of Life’s Uncertainty

Jack Forbes / NY Post Design
One slight change—one different runway assignment, one minor altitude adjustment—could have led to a different outcome. But on Wednesday night, an American Airlines passenger jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter collided midair just minutes from the airline would have been landing, near Reagan National Airport, claiming 67 lives in a heartbreaking tragedy. Investigators point to a mix of miscommunication, challenging flight paths, and an airspace with little margin for error.
Some of those lost were connected to U.S. Figure Skating (leaving the National Development Camp in Wichita), a community with deep ties to Colorado Springs. This devastating event serves as a sobering reminder of our Wellness section this past Monday about life’s unpredictability and the importance of embracing each moment while we can. Full Story

Some of our own—troops from Fort Carson—are at the southern border as part of a federal mission to strengthen security efforts. Soldiers from the 569th Combat Engineer Company and the 759th Military Police Battalion are among the 1,500 active-duty personnel being deployed to assist with monitoring, detection, and reinforcing barriers. They are joined by thousands of service members already stationed there, working under U.S. Northern Command’s direction. Full Story
❄️ D49’s Snow Day Decision—A Big Regret

Snow days are always a tough call, and yesterday’s storm put that challenge to the test in School District 49. While surrounding districts canceled or delayed school due to slick roads, D49 kept classrooms open— a decision the superintendent now admits was the wrong one. After reflecting on the situation, he acknowledged the risks and thanked families, staff, and bus drivers who navigated the day with extra caution.
The district plans to revisit its severe weather protocols, ensuring that safety remains the top priority when the next storm rolls in.

Have some ripe bananas around? And want a recipe without refined sugars or oils? I found this recipe and am hoping to make it this weekend myself!
Perfectly moist and studded with raisins, this vegan carrot cake is sweetened with dates and banana and gets its rich flavor from cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla.
