🌄 Outdoorsy? Summer Gig’s for You!

If you enjoy spending time outside, sharing local history, or mentoring kids, Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services is now hiring seasonal staff for a variety of fun and meaningful roles. Whether you're interested in being a camp leader, helping care for our golf courses, guiding visitors at Rock Ledge Ranch, or working as a park ranger in Garden of the Gods or up on Pikes Peak, this could be a unique way to spend your summer.
These positions offer not only flexible hours but also a chance to build connections, gain experience, and possibly turn it into a longer-term opportunity. It might just be the summer job that sets you on a new path.

🚧 Why South Academy Traffic Is a Mess

If your daily drive takes you near South Academy, here’s a heads-up: a deep and hard-to-reach water main break has forced the closure of all southbound lanes between Hancock and Jetwing, with northbound traffic squeezed down to one lane. They are hoping lanes will be back open on Sunday.
The repair is more complex than usual because the pipe sits under a storm drain, but Colorado Springs Utilities crews are on it day and night. If you want to avoid these traffic headaches or know someone who uses this route, it’s worth planning an alternate way until at least Sunday.
🔥 What Homeowners Are Doing After Being Dropped

For those who love living close to nature but struggle to get home insurance because of wildfire or hail risks, Colorado’s new FAIR Plan might be worth a closer look. It officially launched yesterday, as a safety net for homeowners who’ve been denied coverage by three different insurers (which is happening) and need last-resort protection.
While this option isn't meant to be affordable or replace traditional coverage, 😟 it offers a lifeline for those left out of the insurance market entirely. And while it currently serves residential properties, a commercial version is expected soon. If you've been shut out of coverage, this may be your first real step toward peace of mind. Full Story

🥾 Views, Birds, & Wildflowers—No Crowds at Aiken Canyon

Heath’s Pick!
(Founder of Colorado Fan Club and author)
Aiken Canyon Preserve, located just south of Colorado Springs, is a 1,621-acre natural retreat offering five miles of beginner-friendly trails through shrublands, tallgrass meadows, and quiet canyon systems. It’s home to over 100 bird species and a historic homestead site, all carefully managed by The Nature Conservancy.
The preserve is open from dawn to dusk year-round and provides a wonderful way to explore one of the last intact foothills ecosystems in the region—perfect for a quiet hike, nature photography, or birdwatching. Dogs aren’t allowed to protect the delicate habitat, but the serenity is well worth the visit.
Location: 3350 Turkey Canon Ranch Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80926
