🏗️ Hwy 24 Drivers—Expect Delays This Summer

This month, CDOT is starting a six-month preservation project on 21 timber bridges in El Paso, Park, and Teller counties. The effort will strengthen aging structures—mostly along US 24 and CO 9—by adding steel supports.
Crews will work weekdays from 7am-6pm, with no night or weekend shifts. Expect single-lane closures, short traffic holds, and flaggers in the area. While delays may occur, the work aims to ensure these vital rural bridges remain safe and reliable for years to come.

📚 Poor Richard’s Future? TBD

Poor Richard’s has been a beloved fixture in downtown Colorado Springs for 50 years, growing from a tiny bookstore into a multi-faceted gathering space. From coffee to community activism, it has long reflected the evolving needs of the city and its people. According to KOAA, founders Richard Skorman and Patricia Seator, now in their 70s, are hoping to find new owners who can carry forward the spirit of the space.
Could it be someone local who steps in next? After all, the business has always been powered by its people—from the customers who rebuilt after a fire to the families who made memories there for generations. Full Story

🌺 One Man’s Legacy Still Blossoms

Every May, just as the lilacs start to fade, something magical begins to bloom across from the Patty Jewett Golf Course—a cascade of color that’s stopped strangers in their tracks for over a decade. It was Jay Benson’s labor of love: 54 hanging baskets, bursting with petunias and hope, watered by a clever irrigation system he installed himself so he could get back to golfing.
When Jay passed away in late 2024, the neighborhood quietly wondered if the flowers would return. They didn’t have to wonder long. This spring, Jay’s children, grandchildren, and in-laws showed up with baskets in hand, honoring his dying wish and pouring their hearts into each bloom.
The flower wall is back (and you can go see it any time)—not just as a tribute, but as a living symbol of how love can outlast loss, and how one man’s joy became an entire neighborhood’s tradition.
