🍑 When Do the Palisade Peaches Arrive?

Summer is just around the corner, and while we’re all eager for that first bite of a sweet Palisade peach or the smoky aroma of Pueblo green chilis roasting, Colorado’s most famous produce is still ripening in the fields. Palisade peaches are likely to arrive first in early July, with Olathe sweet corn, Rocky Ford melons, and green chilis following into August.
But don’t let the wait stop you—early summer brings plenty of local freshness too. Right now, it’s peak season for leafy greens and berries, so there’s still plenty of farm-fresh flavor to enjoy while we count down the weeks until our late-summer favorites return. Full Story

📍 COS Measles Alert - Exposure Sites

A rare health alert has reached Colorado Springs as two measles cases were confirmed in the state—one involving a young child from El Paso County.
Health officials are asking anyone who visited Powers Pointe Urgent Care on June 3 or the St. Francis Medical Center ER on June 7 to watch for symptoms like fever, cough, or a rash. Since measles can take up to 21 days to show signs, early awareness is key. Full Story

🚶‍♂️ Missing Alzheimer’s Patient Near Academy

Colorado Springs Police are searching for 35-year-old Paul Rodriguez, who has been missing since Monday morning (May 9, 2025) and is considered at-risk due to a form of Alzheimer’s. He was last seen walking near Academy and Montebello. He is described as a White male, approximately 5'7; 125lbs; brown hair and blue eyes. He has a back tattoo that reads, "Rodriguez." He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt; orange joggers with a black stripe down the sides and a black backpack.
Paul’s family and authorities are deeply concerned, and anyone who may have seen him is urged to call CSPD right away at 719-444-7000. In cases like this, the power of community awareness is crucial.

🦷 TRIVIA: What Did a Local Dentist Discover That Shocked the Nation?

Did you know that Colorado Springs played a pivotal role in one of the most important public health discoveries of the 20th century?
When Dr. Frederick McKay arrived here in 1901, he was puzzled by the unusual brown stains on children’s teeth—a condition soon called “Colorado Brown Stain.” Determined to find the cause, McKay and fellow dentists investigated the city’s water and geology, uncovering naturally high fluoride levels.
Before fluoride was added to water nationwide, what major issue did the U.S. military face with young recruits during World War II?

While the staining was a cosmetic concern, McKay noticed these children had significantly fewer cavities than others. This surprising link sparked research that eventually led to the widespread addition of fluoride to public water supplies, revolutionizing dental health across the nation and now a controversial topic. *Source
Answer: Many had dental problems that disqualified them

🚨 Disturbing Porch Video—You Need to See, CSPD Urges Vigilance

In the northeast part of Colorado Springs in the Northgate Estates area, a late-night prank turned dangerous when a group of teens was caught on a Ring camera lighting fireworks directly on a resident’s porch! The incident is part of an ongoing pattern of escalating mischief in the neighborhood, which has included burning items left at the door.
With dry summer weather approaching, neighbors are concerned about the risk of a serious fire. CSPD is reviewing the footage and encouraging residents to report non-emergency incidents and take steps to secure their homes each night. They’re also urging neighborhoods to consider starting a Neighborhood Watch to help prevent further incidents before someone gets hurt. Full Story
