🗳️ 82% of Voters Just Said “No”

In an unusual special election, Colorado Springs voters overwhelmingly rejected the proposed annexation of nearly 1,900 acres known as the Karman Line. Despite City Council approving the plan earlier this year, a citizen-led petition forced the issue to a public vote, where nearly 82% voted no. The land’s “flagpole” connection and concerns about disconnected growth contributed to the opposition.
City leaders are now reassessing how they approach future annexations and growth, though no next steps have been announced by the developers behind the project (who own the land.) Full Story

⚡Peak Hours = Peak Stress?

Colorado Springs Utilities is adjusted how it charges for electricity with new “Energy Wise” rates, making power more expensive on weekdays from 5 to 9pm—when most households are at their busiest. The goal is to lower demand and avoid building additional infrastructure.
Families can save (or not accrue additional costs) by shifting energy-heavy tasks to off-peak times like early mornings, evenings after 9pm, weekends, and holidays. While it’s a step toward long-term savings and grid stability, it’s also arriving at the exact time many families rely most on electricity. Is this the right move—or one more burden at the wrong time? 🤨
🐎 Step Back in Time at Rock Ledge This Sat

Rock Ledge Ranch is celebrating 150 years of local history this Sat, June 21, with a full day of family-friendly activities. Originally homesteaded by the Chambers family in 1874 for its restorative climate, the ranch has become a beloved living history site next to Garden of the Gods. Guests can enjoy wagon rides, live music, crafts, and nostalgic snacks like “crackers and milk” for just 15 cents—just like the old boarding house days. The event offers a fun and meaningful way to honor the past while enjoying the present. Full Story
