⛳ $24M Swing for COS

With the US Senior Open underway at The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs is gearing up for a major economic win. Around 130,000 fans are expected over the next few days, potentially bringing in $24 million in local spending—from restaurants and hotels to gas stations and shops across downtown, Manitou Springs, and Old Colorado City. Local businesses are ready, and many hope this weekend will break sales records.
And the good news doesn’t stop there—The Broadmoor will host the tournament again in 2031 and 2037, making our city a recurring stop on the national golf stage. Full Story

🚒Why Rescue Crews Rushed to Cimarron Hills
Yesterday emergency crews responded to a trench collapse in Cimarron Hills, where a man was found buried up to his shoulders. The scene required precise teamwork to prevent further danger, as fire crews, utilities, and public safety teams worked together to stabilize the area and safely extract the man. After nearly two hours of careful effort using specialized equipment, he was freed and transported to the hospital. While it's still unclear how the incident began, the outcome reflects just how critical community partnerships can be during life-threatening emergencies.
🚀How One COS Student Could Change Space Travel

Blake MacDonald, a UCCS biology student, is helping lead a student team that’s rethinking how astronauts do laundry in space. Their project uses supercritical CO₂ instead of water to clean clothes, which could make deep-space missions more sustainable.
The idea earned them a $10,000 grant from NASA’s highly competitive BIG Idea Challenge—one of just two awarded nationwide. With teammates from schools across the US, Blake is now helping design a working prototype right from Colorado Springs. It's a major win for innovation—and a proud moment for our local university community. Full Story

🍓Colorful Strawberry Arugula Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette

Recipe by COOKIE + kate
Creamy goat cheese and a simple homemade balsamic vinaigrette round out the sweet-and-slightly-spicy flavor profile. It’s an unexpected combination of flavors, perhaps, but they’re truly irresistible together.
