🚗 What’s the City Planning for Parking?

City of Colorado Springs has finalized a long-term plan to improve parking and curb use

The City of Colorado Springs has finalized a long-term plan to improve parking and curb use in Downtown and Old Colorado City. Developed over 10 months with input from surveys and stakeholder meetings, the plan aims to make parking more efficient, accessible, and tech-friendly for businesses, visitors, and residents.

Some changes are already in place—like adjusted enforcement hours and free off-street parking on Sundays—while others, like new meters and improved customer tools, are on the horizon. Since the Parking Enterprise is funded without taxpayer dollars, any new projects will roll out gradually based on available revenue.

🧓 The Jury Duty Debate for Seniors

Jury Duty Debate for Seniors

Did you know Colorado recently vetoed a bill that would have allowed residents age 72 and older to opt out of jury duty, despite strong bipartisan support. The governor argued that civic responsibilities shouldn’t be dismissed based solely on age.

While some seniors are fully capable of serving—and offer invaluable wisdomothers may face health, mobility, or caregiving challenges that make participation difficult or stressful. As Colorado’s senior population continues to grow, this issue is expected to come up again. For now, seniors still need to request an exemption if serving presents a hardship. Full Story

Quality of Life report for the Pikes Peak region

The latest Quality of Life report for the Pikes Peak region paints a nuanced picture: while 93% of residents report satisfaction with outdoor recreation and job growth has been strong—especially in healthcare, construction, and natural resources—there are areas of concern.

Adult obesity has increased from 21% to 28.5% since 2015, the region ranks poorly in terms of premature deaths, and it has the second highest property and violent crime rates among peer cities. The data helps guide local policy and investments aimed at improving overall well-being. Full Story

👁️ Is It Really Just "Aging Eyes"?

As I wrestle with my own declining vision, I wanted to share this video—not because it promises a miracle, but because it offers a perspective I hadn’t heard in a while. I’ve been slipping into the idea that “this is just what happens as we age.”

This video challenges that narrative. It explores how eye health is tied to the nervous system, stress, inflammation, posture, and nutrition. Around the 15-minute mark, it introduces vision exercises that stimulate the brain and strengthen the eyes—ideas that feel especially timely with how much screen time we all log. If you’re like me and don’t want to accept all vision issue are just part of “getting older”, this might just be worth your time.
