🚧 Major Delays On Austin Bluffs

Austin Bluffs utility project(Colorado Springs Utilities)
Colorado Springs Utilities has launched a multi-month infrastructure project along Austin Bluffs to relocate key underground systems, paving the way for a future electric substation. As part of this work, expect lane closures and shifts now through mid-November. Westbound traffic is reduced to one lane from Meadowland Blvd to Brenner Pl until late July, while eastbound drivers will encounter varying lane closures from the Union merge-lane to Goldenrod Dr.
Local businesses will remain open, but drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible. Full Story

With Prime Day deals running through today (still relevant any time), Amazon was gearing up for a busy week, and so are cybercriminals. Shoppers in Colorado Springs are being warned about scam emails, calls, and fake sites impersonating Amazon. Fraudsters often create a false sense of urgency or ask for payment via gift cards—something Amazon never does.
Officials recommend sticking to the official app or website and avoiding suspicious links or requests. Amazon has already taken down thousands of scam sites, but staying vigilant is key—during Prime Day and all year long. Full Story

😳 Would You Still Eat Here After This?

Beautiful views don’t always mean spotless kitchens. The Viewhouse on 7114 Campus Dr recently failed its health inspection with several serious violations—from improper handwashing to a cooler that couldn’t keep food cold enough. The restaurant says it has fixed the problems and is waiting on re-inspection.
But they’re not the only ones on the watchlist:
❌ Fujiyama Downtown (22 S Tejon) failed again after a previous Jan failure. This time, inspectors found personal vapes and drinks above food-prep areas, no soap at sinks, and to-go containers stored on the floor.
❌ Mariscos Altimar (3105 S Academy), a seafood spot, failed its July 2 re-inspection with 13 violations. It finally passed on July 9 after making improvements.
The good news? Some familiar spots earned top marks:
✅ Fuzzy’s Taco Shop (3111 N Chestnut) – praised for strong safety habits and hands-on leadership.
✅ Wendy’s (5810 Palmer Park Blvd)
✅ Domino’s Pizza (13461 Voyager)
✅ Arby’s (11775 Meridian Market View)
✅ Subway (1825 N Circle)
Health inspection results across El Paso County are available online for those wanting to check their favorite spots. Full Story

🥧 Peach Custard Pie

Recipe by Eating Well
Peaches are starting to show up at the Farmers Markets so we found this recipe to share. Yogurt gives the custard a smooth texture without using cream or too many egg yolks. Delicious served warm from the oven as it is chilled.

🥾 This Gentle Trail Feels Like a Secret - Woodlake Trail
Recommended hike from our friend Heath at Colorado Fan Club who was there this week. If you’re craving a peaceful nature break, Woodlake Trail near the Palmer Divide delivers just that. Tucked away off Woodlake and Hodgen Roads, this easy out-and-back path meanders through 92 acres of prairie, wetlands, and cottonwood groves.
Along the way, you might spot birds, historic dairy ruins, and the kind of views that make you breathe deeper. The trail is dog-friendly, open from dawn until dusk, and free to visit—just bring your own water, sunscreen, and love for wide open Colorado skies.
Location: Woodlake Trailhead - 13998 Woodlake Rd. Elbert, CO 80106
