🤝 The Quiet Shift Changing Lives in COS

One year into Pikes Peak Rising, Colorado Springs is celebrating a transformative shift in how the community approaches mental health. The initiative has brought together neighborhoods, businesses, and public agencies to offer support where people live and work—through gatherings, workplace wellness training, and an online portal offering 24/7 resources.
Key wins include 200+ managers trained in suicide prevention, new partnerships with the 988 hotline, and over 1,000 neighborhood events that promote connection and reduce isolation. As it enters its second year, the movement is expanding outreach to military families, restaurant workers, and more—anchored in the belief that healing starts with human connection.

🐻 What Was Stuck in An Ivywild Storm Drain?

A bear in Colorado Springs' Ivywild neighborhood recently got stuck in a storm drain and needed a helping hand—or paw. Colorado Parks and Wildlife, with support from the City’s Public Works team, unlocked the manhole and watched as the bear climbed out on its own before retreating to a tree.
This calm resolution is a good reminder that bears are still active around town, and CPW’s 5,000+ bear-related calls this year show the importance of keeping food sources secure to prevent wildlife from wandering into neighborhoods.
💚 A Different Kind of Trail Story

This past Saturday morning, members of the Colorado Springs Homeless Union took part in a community trail cleanup along the Greenway Trail near Dorchester Park—an area they’ve adopted through the city’s Adopt A Trail program. Their work not only helped beautify the trail but also raised awareness about the need for more trash cans and restrooms in public spaces, especially for those without stable housing. The union hopes these efforts encourage kindness and remind us all that every person deserves dignity, regardless of housing status. Full Story

🧠 This Simple Trick Silences Overthinking
Many of us feel overwhelmed by intrusive or negative thoughts that seem to take over our mood or decisions.
The Passengers on the Bus metaphor from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy reminds us that while those thoughts may ride along, they don’t get to drive. By imagining your thoughts as noisy passengers—some irritating, some scary—you can learn to acknowledge them without letting them control your path. This exercise encourages a more compassionate, grounded approach to navigating overthinking and anxiety.
