🏟️ Alumni Gift Sparks Major School Upgrade

Doherty High School is getting a major upgrade with the construction of a new indoor field house, thanks to a generous donation from an alum. District 11 broke ground on the facility yesterday, and when complete, it will offer turf, batting cages, a golf simulator, and indoor practice space for athletics, band, and other programs—allowing students to train and learn year-round, regardless of the weather. This marks a big step forward in providing more consistent, safe, and versatile spaces for student growth. Full Story

🚐 MedRide Is Back—But Under New Rules

After a months-long suspension due to alleged fraud, MedRide—one of Colorado’s largest providers of non-emergency Medicaid transportation—is back in service thanks to a newly approved settlement with the state. This is especially important for residents in Colorado Springs, where MedRide plays a key role in helping eligible patients reach their medical appointments.
The agreement comes with several new requirements, including stricter driver training, auditing procedures, and safety compliance. While service will ramp up gradually, the return of this vital transportation option brings relief to many locals who’ve been left in limbo without access. Full Story
🌊 Nature Doesn’t Wait

If you've lived in Colorado Springs long enough, you’ve seen how quickly beauty can turn to chaos during flash floods. Back in 1999, a massive flood tore through Fountain Creek near El Pomar Sports Complex. What had once been a peaceful spot for recreation became unrecognizable—trees uprooted, bridges washed away, and trails simply gone.
It wasn’t just a wake-up call. It was a turning point.
That kind of devastation is exactly why groups like the Trails and Open Space Coalition (TOSC) do the work they do. Advocacy isn’t just about building trails—it’s about protecting them before the storm hits, repairing them after it passes, and making sure our community's outdoor spaces remain safe and accessible year after year.
Fast forward to today, and those risks haven’t disappeared. Just yesterday, Manitou Springs saw flooding again—a reminder that we’re still in the thick of flash flood season. It’s the time of year to be cautious, especially when exploring trails near creeks or drainages.
So while we can’t control the rain, we can support the people working hard to prepare our parks and trails for whatever comes next. Advocacy matters—especially when the water rises.
